Consider the source. Forbes has become unhinged and lacks credibility these days. They throw around clickbait captions using sensationalistic buzz words like jaw-dropping, game changing, and more. Yahoo isn't much better.

Given the lack of coverage by major (credible) cybersecurity sites, either this leak is old or false.

Lol. Did you get those links from Truth Social? All but two actually work. And YouTube for news? Seriously!?! Did you actually verify the links before shortening and adding them as a hyperlink?

The data, as I suspected, is old, very old stashed away in someone's basement sensationalized and fearmongering in trying to sell people a service.

Meanwhile, AP, Reuters, Bloomberg, BBC, and the rest (including credible sources for cybersecurity) are mining for actual journalistic content which they verify the sources.

You have no idea what you are talking about. If you want to ignore this, that is your prerogative. But to say it is not true, is simply sticking your head in the sand.

Trend and Malwarebytes are taking it seriously.

I could go on and on. http://tinyurl.com/ype85knj see for yourself.

Quit trying to disclaim this is not a real threat without a single piece of evidence to the contrary. On the other hand, I have provided ample evidence this is a serious threat

We've had multiples of warnings from various customers, suppliers and software companies on this. Its real and serious.
Getting harder and harder to try to stay a step ahead of the down and up stream security breaches.
Anyone know of a modestly priced hardware firewall for a SOHO?
I have six in my sphere of influence, each should have another layer of security outside of the usual router, software combos. Don't really want to buck up too much, you know it cuts into a certain budget for pleasant times.

TP-Link Multi-WAN High-Performance Wired VPN Router (ER7206) - SPI Firewall SMB Router, Omada SDN Integrated, Load Balance, Lightning Protection, Limited Lifetime Protection - Solid firewall for small business. $170 on Amazon

A little more serious
FORTINET FortiGate 40F Hardware – Next-Gen Firewall Protection & Security - 1 - 10 users, no license required but worth looking at the features the license offers - $400 on Amazon

Cheers

Thanks, if you or anyone else has used any of the lower cost ones comments would be appreciated. I'd prefer to not get into something too consumer level but maybe that's what is affordable. A grand a pop is pushing it, I need to deploy 6.
All the IT folks keep on pushing Cisco, Barracuda, Palo Alto a lot more than is needed here and a LOT more money, plus some need a subscription and/or service contract.
And an F Y I to all you pooners behind that keyboard, a strong recommend is to make sure your router firmware is up to day and you are NOT using the default admin log ins.

They all recommed those companies because those companies make enterprise grade devices. Enterprise level HW/SW is always going to be more expensive than consumer. This is because those devices go through more testing and are designed in a way that they are less likely to fail or even if they fail they come with failsafe/redundancy/backups so that you don't have a critical point of failure in your infrastructure.

I sent those because you mentioned budget. The Fortinet is a good device with the license.
Cisco Meraki
MX67W
Security and SD-WAN appliance with 802.11ac Wi-Fi $1272 US 3 year license $828 US. If you use Shaw they will rent you Meraki's or they offer a payment plan.
Meraki is a great firewall.

Thanks again for comments. We decided on the Netgate SG-2100 as the most bang for the buck in a NGFW product, well reviewed and relatively easy to deploy software too.
