Want to try X country sking

I have never skied down hill or X country

But where i have been visiting . up north .. the town has grooms Xcountry trail .. and it seems like a good way to enjoy the snow , get out with people and get some needed exercise

I have be looking at used skies . Now xcountry has not changed as much as the down hill skies have changed so i think i could still uses a used pair that i can get for 30 and just put new bindings on it .. then still have to get poles only 25 and then some boots they could run 90 .

Over al it is cheaper then down hill by 1/4 to 1/3 and safer .. just need some stamina

Any one got some suggestions .. I am in Victoria .. and have found some places that sell new and used .

Mountain Equipment Co-op has a gear-swap area where people can post free ads.

Sports traders might be worth a look as well.

Thanks WS I was at sports trades They have some used Xcountry.. $30 and have to get new bindings .. to match the boots i buy for a beginner might be the best bet ... I would save about 100 on skies but I am realizing that I would like to get some no wax skies the ones at Sport traders need waxing

that's because waxing may be a pain in the ass - but there is no better surface for gripping the snow while at the same time being able to glide smoothly over it than a well applied layer of the proper wax. trust me on this...

the reason that those skiis are on sports trader is likely because the edges are all worn down. ABSOLUTELY check the edges for excessive wear. if you don't you'll be very very sorry. trust me on this as well
