In Your Wildest Dreams!
This is not really how I wanted to start the new year, but I am going to share my misery because we can all relate, I'm sure! I thought yesterday would be a great day to do my roots, refresh my colour (red takes maintenance! ;) ) So my dedicated hairdresser and I discuss and decide that we need to punch things up a little, and that we'll intensify and brighten my copper to make it more red....blah blah, three hours later (I have a lot of hair...) it's time to start washing it out...

Uh-oh...she's not saying anything. Why is she not saying anything? HEY HAIRLADY, SAY SOMETHING....She scrubs away, she lathers, she's STILL not saying anything...

We try again to tone it but there is NO denying that my COPPER curls are now part RUBY red, and part odd brownish copper...and I've now been at the salon since 10;30. It's 3 pm. On the way out of the mall, I stop to have my eyebrows done. Girl says to me "Oh did you just colour your hair/" I said no, I've just had it done. I hear the words in response that NO ONE who has just endured 4 hours in a salon should have to hear "OH. I thought maybe you did it yourself!"

So. Friday morning, I'll be back at Guildford, having all the red pigment stripped out of my hair with a bleach shampoo..and having the correct colour reapplied. It seems that in order to create those ravishing rich CARROT TOP redhead shades that I love, ORANGE pigment is what's required. Not red. Not ever....

(Sigh) I haz a sad. And my hair (about which I am INCREDIBLY VAIN) looks stupid, and is giving my self-esteem a real kick in the nutz...

Happy New Year, ladies. As my 2014 wish to all my sisters (and 'daughters', if you will) is this ...ONLY GOOD HAIR DAYS!!!

Much affection
Ms Erica

Honey, I am certain you are still gorgeous.

I haven't dyed my hair in ten years. I ruined it after I went blonde and decided never again.

Don't worry Erica, like you said we have all been there.

(Maybe you can shave your head and advertise as "Sinead".)

Yeah....too bad my SCALP is the colour of your BRA right now, brat!
I keep forgetting that in HAIRSPEAK, the red shades that flatter me are all ORANGE!!!

try dishwashing detergent, it'll make your hair feel like rope, but half the colour will usually come out too, just deep condition after (i hear clarifying shampoo has a similar effect)

After my own heartbreaking blonde highlights into elbow length auburn hair (that ended up being hauled through a cap, and taking five hours just to get the cap off, having to be cut to stick straight shoulder length mostly blonde slightly green hair eight hours later that I still had to pay at the salon for) at the age of 14 I now only ask people who 1) have an auburn or brunette hair colour that I really like to 2) do non permanent colour because it is pretty much all the same to my hair and it seems less damaging

I wish I could still get away with non permanent colour. I began to get quite grey when I was sick 3 years ago...I would not like to imagine how much I have now! It has to be permanent.

I have a red headed friend that had to go Brunette when she started to Grey. Trying to keep the Red, resulted in "Phyllis Diller" type hair.

Sometimes the most wonderful things happen unexpectedly...after a bleach cocktail and judicious application of toner, my hair is back to my beloved VIVID copper!

You know what that means?

A)When I put on my newest purple lingerie against my tanned skin and my flaming red hair, I think..."I'd do me!!!" and 2) I need new pictures! Yay!

I'm so glad things worked out...I have known women to cry real tears when their hair goes bad, and confidence is a huge thing around here! Truly happy for you!

sdw...that's funny...Marcia Cross red was EXACTLY what it was supposed to be; that magenta colour was pretty much the unintended shade, and the bottom picture is what I looked like halfway through the repair process!

That's what I wound up with!
