That voting outcome was in the back of everyone's mind. Social media exploded with no supporters all over Metro Van. These planners should had the realization that one day, these issues would have come to fruition. It's not our ( we public People ) faults for their lack of urgency or vision.

Thats ok.......they'll come up with some other slippery scheme to nail us.

Translink has let Exec's go in light of the recent referendum vote

Translink is showing top executives the door in the aftermath of the failed transit and transportation plebiscite. A memo from Acting CEO Doug Allen says BC Rapid Transit Company President and General Manager Doug Kelsey and Translink Executive Vice President Bob Paddon have been let go. Kelsey was responsible for SkyTrain, West Coast Express, and management of the Canada Line. Paddon was responsible for the Translink role in the region's long term transportation strategy. Voters recently rejected the pitch for a sales tax increase to fund transit and transportation.

Now, if only the dumbest people in the room (the Mayors) were shown the door and replaced with knowledgable people who have worked on major transportation systems the GVRD would be a better place.

They've been dealt a bad hand by the Provincial government. Funding for transit needs to be solved in a sustainable and fair way. Having voters vote on a tax increase was a sure way to have it rejected, but funding needs to come from some place. If it isn't going to be a wealth tax or income tax on the wealthiest, than a sales tax seem to be a reasonable way to spread the cost... unless increasing traffic congestion and inadequate transit capacity is seen as the optimal solution (which I don't). The governance structure is a problem and needs to be changed. You can fire everyone, change the governance structure, but you still have the issue of how the system will be appropriately and fully funded. I'm skeptical that the latest firings will do much to solve the problem, and rather they were simply sacrificial lambs to give the appearance that something is being done. More substantive reform is needed... and there will continue to be the issue of funding, which this Provincial govt seems incapable of or unwilling to address.
