I have a TV tuner card, and some cheap recording program, that records programs in some proprietary format.

Question

what do you use to record TV programs to your computer?
  1. records it in some recognized format
  2. can be preprogrammed to record at certain time, certain channel

or do you use two programs .....

I'm just to lazy to go to newsgroups, and I'm sure Hitrack will have answer for me

I use ATI AIW card, comes with a TV tuner program. Never tried anything else, but works great. I guess if you have other video editing programs such as adobe primere or final cut express, you can import the video directly !!!

Linux has lots of options.
Mythtv is the most popular but there are many others.
Cheap and easy if you have some computer savvy.

I think but I'm not sure if windows media center edition records in a proprietary format or not, but it works good for making your PC a PVR. Obviously just download it and try it out.

Others good one is

beyond tv

Yes, the Media Center version records (I don't know about the format) but doesn't it only come with PC's equiped with it? I don't believe that you can just buy that version of XP, can you?

VM on a serious note I would not buy the Bell Expressvu PVR. Especially the dual tuner model 5220. I, like you love using my PC as a VCR, although it sorta fukks up doing anything on your PC while recording for fear of botching said recording.

Sooooooo, I was thinking of this as a kick azz alternative. Untill I read this.

Those are some of the worst horror stories about electronic consumer equipment I have ever read.

I recently bot a new PC with an Avermedia 007 TV Tuner with remote control. The card cost $60. It will let you record in ways that will allow you to burn the recorded shows onto CDs or DVDs. Not nearly as good as the ATI AIW card but good enough. Here is the link: http://www.avermedia-usa.com/2005home/product/tvtuner/pci/tvgo7/tvgo7.shtml

This is from the website:

High quality with exceptional value, the AVerTV Go 007 FM Plus transforms your PC into a TV, PVR and FM radio. Featuring a 16-channel preview, recording scheduler, parental control and a full function remote control, the AVerTV Go delivers quality and unbeatable value simultaneously. Watch TV, Pause, Rewind, Playback Live TV, and listen to your favorite FM radio station all from the included full function remote control.
