Yiks... I had troble stayiny at altitud in a Cessna 150......in a jet at those speeds I would hav a mouth full in 10 sec.

My guess is they are pilots trained in nuclear attack for coming in very low. Offhand I would imagine they are doing a little more than landing speed, perhaps faster. Still that is amazingly fast for any kind of aircraft at that almost non-exsistant level. Loved the shots with the lighthouse in the background, those really show a viewer how low the Mirage 2000's really are.

Since they are French Air Force jets, how do they surrender? As nice as that video is, they are flying over the ocean, a relative flat surface, with no annoying trees or hills to dodge. I remember being on excercise in Wainwright AB, many years ago, and digging in on top of the river overlooking Battle bridge, and looking down just in time to see two CF-18s zipping down the valley below us, popping up over the bridge just in time to miss it. As cool as we thought we were in the army, the Air Force taught us exactly who had the coolest job in the world that day.

Vapour trails can actually occur a relatively low speeds as well. I've seen them coming off the wings of Indy cars on damp days. You often see the trails coming from an aircraft on landing approach, with all the gear and flaps hanging. Depending on the aircraft, that's often down below about 130 knots.

They all practice flying that low. Cuz any nation which can mount a radar on a platform can take out a high flyer at 60 miles. When they come in low, they can strike and get out a dodge before a surface unit can lock on.
