Chillin' on the beach
The following was posted this morning on another forum I frequent. It serves as a reminder that we all should remember that there are real people, souls behind the handles and avitars. I chated with Renae many times and had no idea she was sick. What incredible strength of charachter she must have had. RIP Renae.

It is with great sadness and remorse that I must inform all of you that our beloved Renae passed away at 9:51AM on August 8th at her home in Augusta Georgia . She was informed four months ago by her doctors that she had developed acute lymphocytic leukemia and that they had caught it at an fairly advanced stage . On the morning of Sunday , August 8th , my sweetheart and best friend Renae awoke feeling dizzy , sick , and confused , so she called her mother to come be with her . Her mother quickly drove to her house and sometime afterwards called 911 when Renae stopped breathing . By the time the paramedics got there it was too late , they could not revive her . Renae passed away in her bed wrapped in her favorite pink covers that she loved so dearly . She was just 20 years old .

For the last 4 months Renae had been taking weekly chemotherapy treatments to try to stop the leukemia from destroying her red-blood cells , but it was not working . So two weeks ago , in a last ditch effort to save her , doctors began a 5-6 day a week chemo schedule . This made her very ill , weak , and unable to work , and finally her little body was unable to take the stress of the treatments and she just shut down .

Renae had a dream since she was a little girl to someday own a retro-style coffee shop in Las Vegas . She was planning on returning to Georgia University to continue studying on her way to a business degree . She often talked about how she felt that she was born in the wrong era and would have preferred to be born sometime in the 1940's to live in that time of fabulous cars , homes , and furnishings , surrounded by the morals and kindness that have sadly long since passed . She loved the 50's style so much that she furnished her whole house in a retro theme and would collect old signs , furnishings , and memorabilia , including her beloved actual Mobil gas station pump that she proudly displayed in her living room .

Renae was a wonderful , intelligent , fun , beautiful , and caring person and I will forever miss her infectious laugh and southern wit and personality . Her voice was like a calming wind , and it soothed the soul of whoever heard it . I loved her very much , and though I grieve for her , I take comfort in the fact that she is in a much better place with God in Heaven , free of her suffering....and maybe , just maybe , she got her wish and is living there in the 1950's .

I want you all to know how much she loved being here . It gave her the wonderful gift to be herself and forget about her pain and suffering for awhile . Thanks to all that knew her for treating her with kindness and respect and making a very difficult time a little better . She loved you all . I am so sorry I was not able to tell most of you what was wrong with her , simply because she would not allow me to do so . She so disliked people asking her how she was , how she felt , and all of the questions that someone afflicted with such a horrible disease is confronted with . She just wanted to have fun and talk in chat and post in the forums like nothing was wrong . I hope you all understand . Please remember the good times you all had with her , that is what she would have wanted , and keep her in your prayers and thoughts .

Renae was strong and brave until the end , and was such an inspiration to me in so many ways . We would talk on the phone nearly every night and I will always treasure those moments with her , and I did my very best to let her know that I was always here for her and would do anything I could to help her get through this thing . She told me several times she only had a short while to live , but I guess I just did not want to believe it .

Baby , until we meet again in Heaven , have fun up there with God , and smile down upon us , as we are smiling back up at you . We will all miss you so very much . Save a spot at a table in your coffee shop darling , someday I will be there with you . Although I only knew you for a relatively short time , you touched me deeply , and your spirit will live inside me forever . Goodbye for now Renae , may the Angels bring you peace and comfort for eternity . We will all be together again someday . My condolences go out to her wonderful family and friends , who supported and loved her so profoundly . We all share your pain and loss . God Bless you Renae , I love you....

I just read it and it makes me sad too. Passing away so quickly after the initial diagnosis must have been a big shock to those who loved her. There's never quite enough time in this world to realize all our dreams and this post is a reminder of that. I like the 50s as well; rockabilly, poddle skirts, drive thru movies and burgur joints..she would have loved Hamburger Mary's . The person who wrote this did a fine job of capturing Renae's spirit. Thanks for sharing this with us Hit Man.

At least she got to pass with her mom by her side wrapped in her favorite blankie. Too many die alone in unfamilar surroundings.

RIP Renae Anne Dahlstorm.

To those who knew Renae, I am sorry for your loss. In her memory let's all consider this a timely reminder to live each day to the full, and to count our blessings regularly.

My thoughts

I have never met or even heard of her but do feel sad for those that knew her. It always pains me when I hear of anyone passing away, especially due to illness and breaks my heart when they leave at such a young age. I hope she is in a better place now.

Not to be an asshole, cause there are many sad stories. But how can you feel sad for a single person who you neve rmet when this and MUCH worse go on every day. We don't try and help these people, we rarely will give up our conveniences or paychecks to help cancer research, or stop starvation, or even make a personal effort to go to long term care facilities or a terminal patient ward to talk with people in these circumstance, yet we shed a tear when we hear a story like this. I'm sorry but if I don't feel sorry enough to get my lazy ass off the couch to do something positive for people, I'm sure not going to shed a tear for them. And, I'd be offended if I were her and people who never knew me, never lifted a finger to help another person in need, and who will be affected no more than just saying, "oh how sad.....weep weep" were pittying me after my passing.

My 2cents.

That's a very good point Oppai. It's hypocrisy isn't it? It's only when there's a name/ identity and a story attatched to an illness/death that people seem to take notice. I guess that's why charity groups always concentrate on the individual instead when soliciting donations. I have to admit it was a touching post though. I could identify with it because I would never want to be put in a situation where I worked hard for the future only to realize I didn't have one. In an ideal world everyone would live to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

I'm sure some of do donate time to helping charities and fundraising and also give up some of our money as well. It's for the sole reason of just making things easier and better for those that need help and not one person in particular. I had previously said that I feel for those that knew her, coming from personal experience, I know how difficult it is to lose someone to illness. Of course I am sad that she is gone , as I would feel for anyone regardless if I knew them or not and hope she is in a better place, but it's those that knew her that have to continue to deal with the pain of loss. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I respect that, but I was simply tryin to give my condolences out of respect for a loss of life.
