I was wondering if anyone has ever purchased a newer vehicle that had a salvage or rebuilt status or involved in an accident where the repairs were very very high? Anyone have any reoccuring problems or is the vehicle unsafe to drive for safety reasons?

no one I know would touch a rebuild, let alone one 'where the repairs were very very high'

theres no such thing as 'good as new'

besides, theyre giving brand new cars away, and even then they can be a fucking lemon

go get a brand new car and love it

Edit: To answer your question... There should be no safety issues as it would have to be inspected and passed. But as far as recurring issues related to the crash? Count on it.

If the salvage parts are still good, then it would be a good deal if your car needs the parts for repair or replacement due to tear and wear reason because the salvage parts are cheaper!

If a car has been written off as unrepairable, be careful as you may not be able to get it insured even if it has been re-built and passes inspection.

I would NEVER buy a salvaged or rebuilt vehicle. You will ALWAYS have some type of problem with the vehicle.

If you think buying a used car is a hassle because repairs have to be made to it, try a car that has been written off because a dealership deems it unsuitable for rebuild.

Rebuilt status doesn't always mean it's been in a very big accident. For newer cars, the parts are very expensive and icbc will write it off. Air bags are some of the main reasons icbc will write off a car. I have a rebuilt car that only had 2 air bags, headlights and bumper replaced. That's all the damages and icbc wrote it off. Have the car 6 years now and no problem. One thing I would sugguest is that to make sure whoever you buy it from had a good body shop do the repairs because some shops is not very good.

iceboy is correct. Sometimes just the airbags will writeoff a car. The biggest issue is knowing who did the inspection on the repair. Just like most things in life, know what you're doin' before you do it!

It makes it harder to sell, even when its old. My dad saved himself a good amount of money on his truck. Put 300,000km on it, no problems related to the repairs.
But even when it was 16 years old. It was 12 years with 300,000 kms since the repairs.......asking price very low, buyers were still put off by the rebuild status

I noticed some buyers are very very finiky. Even a newer vehicle with an accident amount of $5,000, people are a bit scared to buy. It doesn't take much to accumulate $5,000 because parts and labour are expensive....

Sloppy seconds.

A crashed car, as long as you know it had been crashed, will never feel as tight.

I have a beamer that was in a big accident when only 1.5 yrs old. Since I had a policy that said they'd buy me a new car if they wrote it off, they didn't. So they paid 70K to give me a car worth less than 50K to avoid paying 110K.... anyways, clearly I'd have big problems trying to sell it but 7 years later the vehicle is still good as new. No problems with it, tight as a drum... why? because the repair company I had do the work was top notch. So if you are considering a vehicle with a large repair bill, look at who repaired it. ... Unfortunately, most salvaged vehicles are rebuilt by small outfits looking to turn a fast buck....
