So I'm coming into Vancouver for the weekend, I don't make it in often so I'm wondering what is recommended these days for some good places too eat, drink etc. I'll be hitting the Leafs game on Saturday as well.

So some good pubs/bars to check out on Friday?

On the adult side I've never done the Penthouse so might check that out and it's been about a decade since Brandi's I think, so probably check that out too.

One thing I would like advice on - I'm hoping to take a female friend out for a nice dinner after the game on Saturday. Where is a nice place that is upper scale but still casual dress for after the game to have an great dinner at that (ie think somewhere that people in town are saying is a go to place with some buzz about it).

Thanks Vancouverites!

Cardero's on the waterfront in Coal Harbour. Hangs out over the marina...
Like a Keg.
Great apps. Live music in pub side.
Great staff....

Sell your hockey tickets. Go to the Lions game Friday night instead and have money left over to pay for your evening. Often shark club is pretty good after games.

Agree abut Cardero's- it's 'meh'. Hawksworth is hit or miss according to the reviews I've heard/read. Try L'Abbatoir in Gastown or Wildebeest on Hastings (just west of Abbott). Both are within walking distance from the sports venues. Strip clubs- they're pretty much all the same. Penthouse and the '5' are owned by the same people.

I'd say Hawksworth >> Wildebeest in my opinion.

As for strip clubs I always found Brandi's to be the best, but priciest, No. 5 to have the highest proportion of big fake boobs and Penthouse to have more real boobs, but that was just the general theme I got.

Apples n oranges. Hawksworth is high end fine dining vs Wildebeest tapas/gastropub. Wildebeest ranks higher in it's category. I was nice, but expected better form Hawksworth when I went. It's too bad Vancouver has lost a lot of it's fine dining establishments. As good as the food culture is in this city, there's still no Michelin rated restaurant in town.

The Roof above Black & Blue on Alberini is super trendy and has delicious food. (Part of Glowbal group)

Otherwise, Gastown is getting to be a real hotspot today and you will easily find pubs and restaurants to check out there. If you are heading to the game though you might wanna stick around Yaletown, its closer to the stadium I think. My restaurant of choice in Yaletown is Bistro Sakana for their Aburi Style sushi or Glowbal for their half price appies everyday 3-6pm!

You ever see that Michelin documentary on Netflix? It seems like a lot of politics go into the Michelin award process...

dogg- Hawksworth is 5 star French restaurant. If you order liquor you may end up spending a months or two car payment (depending on how nice your car is and how much you drink). Instead ask for directions to Reflections, their courtyard lounge and hopefully you can sweet talk your way into a seat . On and BTW. Both of these places I would say there is a dress code in effect!!

All the places I mentioned are Dressy Casual, mind you if it is game night, you could get away with a jersey I am sure! :)

Does anyone know the name of that whisky bar located in gas town . I'm not a drinker so I can't really determine anything regarding booze but I went there last weekend . Good looking place. Good looking people and delicious appetizers . I loved the service and even though it was busy it wasn't too loud . This place is great to go at night around 12 pm

Thanks guys, some good tips, the tapas bar may be the place to check out.

I came into town yesterday and had a good time last night. Wandered down Robson for a bit, not much going on there, seems more families there etc. Stopped in at Cactus club for a drink and to check out the talent :) Bartender there (hot little asian with great lips) told me to head to Gastown and start out at Chill Winstons? - So I did that, Gastown is certainly the place to be it seems. Winstons was not too busy, but expected most to be a bit slower post-Halloween week. Food was good, service and beers were good as well. Ended up staying there most of the night.

Wandered down to No5, it was busy with quite a few girls working. Still don't get a great vibe from the place, and the dances are ridiculous money ($50). Got a couple from a blond hottie from Quebec with a great set of bolt ons. Lots of grabing and touching by both of us, a fun interlude but I'll save my $ for other activities :).

Checked out Penthouse mostly as I had never been and wanted to see it because of the TV shows etc. Pretty disappointed by the place, not a fun layout, was kinda dead and not many girls. Neat to have been in it, but unless I hear of some new reviews that are fantastic that will probably be my only visit.

I'll be back to Gastown tonight I'm sure to check out the Wildbeest (sp?) :)

Thanks for the advice everyone - lots of places on my list to check out now.

A word on The Penthouse... no liquor license but you can sneak in some byob
The Penthouse absolutely serves alcohol! I think you're confusing it with The Paramount in New Westminster.
