yes you are right - there was also that stretch where the Olympic village condos are that girls used to go to...

I used to love the commute home in the evenings down Seymour Street. Wall to wall friken Babes lined up starting at Drake.

Definitely the Stroll for the Higher end . . . . .

I remember seeing the Chicklets. That really was quite the show. The whole peeler industry has tanked recently.

I used to cruise looking at the providers back then as well, but aside from one instance, I never engaged one. The one instance was after a bit of a cash windfall, I found a girl downtown somewhere - I'm seeming to recall it was on West Georgia (?) or whatever. At the time, it was the 'better' girls that were in that area. As I think back to what that experience was like as compared to my more recent interactions.... things are a ton better. Not sure if that was because services in general have improved, or I'm just more experienced with what to expect and what I want. GFE it was not. Lay back, spread legs and wait for me to be done - it was.

I used to cruise the crap out of all the strolls and really liked Quebec St from 1st Ave to Broadway but also the blocks and alleys north of Broadway behind the 7/11 by Frazer St
ahh…Quebec row, fond memories of heart beating fast with anxiety as I
drove around venturing into my first SW experience.
now it's all condos and hipster hangouts (which I don't have any objection to).
if they could only see what Mt Pleasant was in the days,
they'd be saying…OMG! (in that stupid tone of voice as if asking a question).

It was all a blur. I do remember LE cars cruising the strip as well which made
the cruising for pooning experience more exhilarating. got pulled over once but
the cop just gave me a warning.

I must say though, there were some head turners back then and most looked presentable.
even the low tracks had decent providers. not nowadays. the girls look unclean
and just plain nasty. AMPs are now my preferred venue for pooning.

and a big thanks again to Hatrick's contribution to the board and his SW adventures.
young pooners on PERB should search and read some of his stories and you'll have a glimpse
of a Vancouver that once was.

happy pooning brothers.

Hastings and also Cordova from Main to Campbell.
Franklin and Commercial.
Clarke from Hastings down to 1st Ave.
Kingsway in sections... Fraser to Knight... Rupert area... Joyce to Boundary
Hastings around Madison in Burnaby

A bunch of girls pretty rough and a bunch of okay & fun.
There were some really good days even in the early to mid 2000s.

Gary Taylor's and the Penthouse were great too. It was more leisurely and you had more interaction with the ladies than in a car. You could have a drink or two and check each other out.
There was another even better place on Georgia a couple of blocks past Burrard. It was gone by the mid eighties.

The real high track was along Georgia in front of the Devonshire before the ladies moved over to Seymour and Richards.

Oh scubasamm you do bring back some memories :) I was 10 years older than you in '84. The strolls were amazing in the early 80s. Quebec was awesome (still remember girls named Kat and a French Canadian girl Simone oh and Alex…..my oh my……) Price was right and the girls by and large were gorgeous. The other great stroll was West Georgia Seymour to Burrard. When the girls were moved to Seymour/Richards there were occasionally some gems but over time became an over priced tourist trap. There was one girl that became somewhat of a regular for me. She used to stand near a pay phone (remember those? :) ) at Richards near Robson. I can't remember her name. It was a flower type name i think. Gorgeous

Franklin and Commercial…..the one gem there was Dawn the animal lover. Going back to her place nearby was like a visit to the zoo. But she was awesome and ridiculously underpriced. I think she was like 40 BJ 60 lay 80 half and half or something like that. And this was in the early 2000s if memory serves.

Anyway, memories. Overall, for both pooners and providers, it is probably best that the girls are now off the streets (mostly) but in it's heyday Vancouver had a hell of a street scene. Pretty awesome. It was kind of fun to drive or walk around the strolls I must say.

Memories, like the…….

I do remember them in the 80s, not sure if memory is correct but lots of white women back than, look like Russians. Unlike today where Asians are everywhere. Could use the variety today thats for sure.

I recall, years later, how enjoyable it could be to go to that little diner across the street from (then) Madame Cleo's (was that on Richards?) to just happen to want a sit-down meal with all of the humanity you could possibly want, for entertainment, both outside the windows and sometimes inside the diner.

Those amazing babes, the night air, and what were perhaps better times made for quite the intoxicating combination.

Me thinks tiz far more difficult today to reach legal age without having been wronged considerably by the people and society all around you and while looking none the worse for wear, as they did (manage to do).

Those days are gone...

LOL - even detailed photos would bring back some fine memories. (and I don't mean photos of the architecture which served as a backdrop.)

Yep, remember that diner well. Corner of Richards and Helmcken. A scene indeed.

This post is killing me. I was too young for all of this but I have heard a lot about Vancouver back then. How about this film? http://www.nfb.ca/film/whistling_smith
thanks for the link superio,
an excellent documentary with awesome footage.
a beat cop that really cared about the community.

Vancouver's DTES really looks good on film.
the look and feel reminds me of the Dirty Harry series (Clint Eastwood)

I was around in time to recall the sights on the "high track" in the Richards/Helmcken area, and I recall some very-early 1980's scenery outside of the Georgia Hotel, but I just didn't know the city well enough in those early days to avail myself of the amazing selections that some of you are citing from the outlying areas not in central downtown.

Of course the "high track" women, while immaculately presented, were almost all upsellers, where their first line was often "Can you spend a hundred bucks?" ... which, you'd later find, would barely get you in their doors, and often it would take several hundred more to get what you really wanted from them.

But it wasn't really the close encounters of the sexual kind that mattered most back then, it was instead the vast potential your mind would perceive as you perused the plentiful selection of striking women with the strong feeling that the night (or early morning) would end with you getting what you wanted from one of them.

It was often so fun to just walk circles around the downtown "high track" area while inconspicuous to all but a few of the working girls (who noticed you passing over and over) while seeking just the right 'vibe' (or, short of that, somebody who would effectively *approach you* so as to ease your nerves and engage your thoughts effectively enough to woo your interest. The women who did so were sharp-minded and perhaps a bit more earthy and approachable than were their mostly-silent counterparts, which was nearly always a good thing.)

There just isn't a way to give today's younger, internet-savvy pooners who know more efficiency, and more safety, a full sense of how amazing it would seem to walk along central Vancouver streets nearly flooded with working girls who had each gone the extra mile in prepping their look for yet another night at curbside.

Yet despite my having witnessed that ~ far too often without enough money to spend ~ I can tell with clarity that those outlying areas, away from central Van., were the places to have found the best values and the true 'gems' of the Vancouver street trade (circa 1980-1990 perhaps).

Late in the 1990's and through the 2000's there were still vast numbers of very sincere women plying the trade in the DTES and surrounds, many of whom have been terrific encounters (healthy women merely trying/needing to make ends meet late in their pay periods) but sometimes one would have to drive and drive for ages trying to determine those from the vast numbers of drug-addled women in the same surrounds.

But I'm sure the 1970's and 1980's were the golden age of on-street pooning in Vancouver, and any photo/video evidence would assure most observers of same.
