Not exactly surprising for anyone who lives here.....

Vancouver has 2nd most unaffordable housing market in the world after Hong Kong

Toronto, Victoria, Kelowna and the Fraser River Valley in B.C., also ranked unaffordable

Vancouver has the second most unaffordable housing market in the world after Hong Kong, according to a new study of major property markets.

The annual Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey ranks real estate markets in Canada, the United States, Australia, China, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

Vancouver's affordability ranking in 2015 is the worst it has ever been in the survey's 11-year history.

Although Vancouver was the only Canadian city that made it to the top 10, housing markets in Toronto, Victoria, Kelowna, B.C., and the Fraser Valley in B.C. were also ranked as unaffordable.

Meanwhile, Moncton, N.B. was ranked Canada's most affordable market.

Saint John, Fredericton, Windsor, Ont. and Charlottetown were also ranked as affordable places to buy homes.

Kamloops B.C.
Prices for farmland in the Lower Mainland have become unsustainable as well, forcing real producers to migrate into the Southern Interior of B.C.
The Fraser Valley is the second most fertile soil on the planet, and it's getting paved over forever ,due to urbanization.
The prices per acre have risen in some cases so high in the Interior, that now that leased Government rangelands are included in the overall price.
With the rising prices of hay, and the live beef prices at a historical high, even financial investment groups have began as of last year ,to buy the largest families ranches in the Thompson Regional District, as long term solid investments.
Some of the largest ranches in the world exist in the Interior of B.C.....and are owned by Financial Groups.

In the last 5 years there has never been as much residential construction ever, new neighbourhoods have transformed all the local areas with intense housing on postage stamp properties and condos. Somehow these are all selling out and filling up with people, I've never seen anything like it. Where the hell did everyone come from I can hardly get out of my driveway anymore because of all the traffic. A shitbox house in Surrey is 600,000 bucks now that seems unaffordable yet someone is buying them, I don't get it what the hell is happening?
the lowest interest rates we've seen since we were kids - and you and i ain't no spring chickens!!

plus the official census numbers are so far off, they're ridiculous! i'm not sure how anybody gains by the government posting bogus census numbers, but they do

Do a drive by at night to these new developments, 25% or more are unoccupied.

Foreign money coming to somewhere perceived as stable and is a great place to live. This is where having some kind of residence requirement... or taxes where the residential requirement isn't met, would be useful... though there would still be plenty finding ways to circumvent any taxes.

This article refers to Micro-suites in Metro Vancouver, but they're located in Surrey.

A new condominium project has people intrigued about the low cost of owning real estate in Metro Vancouver.

The sales centre for the Evolve housing complex in Surrey was buzzing with potential homebuyers Saturday.

The condo complex will include 35 suites just 316 square feet in size with presale prices starting at $93,900. Dozens more micro-suites in the complex will also be under 400 square feet.
