Perhaps, but I don't believe anything short of a repeat of TM Square massacre, with at leaast 10 times as many deaths and arrests, will stop the HK protesters and I'm not sure the Chinese government could survive the bad press that would result. If you think everyone in China is happy with the current Chinese government, you are mistaken. The Chinese government has often had to resort to hiring thugs to enforce their laws and keep their citizens in line. See the scholarly article below:
