Do Vancouver SPs prefer usd or cad money? I was in Montreal last summer and places charged more if paying in usd.

Canadian.
They would have to exchange it in order to use it around town unless they don't mind getting dinged at every transaction when paying for goods or services.
As well they would be more used to seeing Canadian currency, hopefully making it easier to spot fakes.
