I still think its too soon to call it; most likely teritorial concessions and Ukraine joining Nato; strengthened European resolve against Russia and a generational memory of being stabbed in the back over gas imports. The next US admin not be hostile to Russia, but the one after that will be.They make me sad. I don’t understand how someone could just… not care about other people? Like it’s so easy to not be actively terrible. I grew up being promised Star Trek, and it is beyond my ken and reckoning how so many people would rather have a reality that makes Blade Runner *look* like Star Trek.
It’s like…. How? We could have a world where none suffer, and a majority of people would rather see the world burn than see one person helped. One person embraced. It literally makes me cry.
The USSR army’s slogan was Die for Russia; the elites have always seen the people as naught more than a resource to slaughter in an nearly unwinnable game of simply having a population vastly higher through colonial conquest than almost any nation on Earth for the past two hundred or so years. Every victory is Pyrrhic, yes, but also is victory. In the Second World War, Russia’s casualties are almost as high as all other casualties combined if you include [intentional] famine.
Well yeah, just like fully laissez faire capitalism, it's a philosophical utopian ideal, rather than a form of government. My point is, nations can call themselves “communist” all they want, but communism only exists on paper. Would a rose by any other name be so… evil?
This thread is a good justification to demonstrate that AI needs to take over![]()
yeah if that's winning, what's losing? Is Russia winning? Seems like the cost has been very very high and will fuck them for years to come.
Having family? In this economy?A dumb question, I know, but are any of the posters bothering to celebrate the holidays with loved ones and friends? People seem to have a lot of time to post................
Even when the homes of my parents were occupied by the Nazis and then the Communists and the world lay in ruins around them, they still celebrated Christmas and the Holidays. You would have to be pretty pathetic to suggest that it is not possible to enjoy the season simply because of the economy. Jeez......Having family? In this economy?
I think the ww2 jews might disagree for a couple of reasons but thats not today. Merry Jewish Guy on a Cross day to all.Even when the homes of my parents were occupied by the Nazis and then the Communists and the world lay in ruins around them, they still celebrated Christmas and the Holidays. I would argue that most ' communist ' countries end up closer to fascist countries , where a bunch of industrial oligarchs sieze the politcal power fronted by populist blowhards railing against the 'other' ....wait a second....where have i seen this recently? Feels familiar.Well yeah, just like fully laissez faire capitalism, it's a philosophical utopian ideal, rather than a form of government.
Exactly ! Which is the reason why the Citizen united decision from POTUS will have repercussions for years to come unless the US politicians amend their constitution.a great easily digestible look at myths about the economy by Robert Reich... how for the last 50 years the rich are increasingly leaving everyone behind in the US... and how, if Americans are upset with the direction of the country they should look to the rich instead of blaming the poor.
The 10 Biggest Myths About Our Economy
Most people in North America are kind of ignorant on the histroy of labor strife, the response of the oligarchs, and the origins of alot of the stuff they take for granted like weekends off, work safety, and lunch breaks. This is by design.Exactly ! Which is the reason why the Citizen united decision from POTUS will have repercussions for years to come unless the US politicians amend their constitution.
Also one of the reasons I suspect that Bernie Sanders is being demonized by the right wing politicians and medias ($ source influence) ....but when he goes to Fox News in a town hall setting he is being cheered by to audience when he explains that the average citizen is being screwed by big money.
Theodore Roosevelt would be a good example to study about his crack down of the Rich families at the turn of the 20th century ; the average US citizen would have a better understanding to make up their mind .
Yep . Neglect the school system, undermine the curriculum and make sure the population is divided over it , so that its not too costly for the power to be .I heard a good quote today - thwre

The Winnipeg General Strike of 1919 was one of the most famous and influential strikes in Canadian history.[1] For six weeks, May 15 to June 26, more than 30,000 strikers brought economic activity to a standstill in Winnipeg, Manitoba, which at the time was Canada's third largest city. In the short term, the strike ended in arrests, bloodshed and defeat, but in the long run it contributed to the development of a stronger labour movement and the tradition of social democratic politics in Canada.I heard a good quote today - thwre

The general levels of education in both Canada and the USA are shocking.Neglect the school system, undermine the curriculum and make sure the population is divided over it

I'm ashamed to say but I have not held a book in 2 or 3 years . I read mostly articles online which is not the same .The general levels of education in both Canada and the USA are shocking.
Literacy is very bad, how many people, even on here, have actually read a book lately?
When was the last time you saw someone reading a book?

When the covid lock down hit I went back to reading books. When my local library branch was availible I checked out books. I've been reading 2-3 books a week for a few years now, all from my local branch. I order books on line and they are sent to my branch. All sort of topics. Helps to keep my noggin sharp.
I’m almost exclusively a bathroom reader.how many people, even on here, have actually read a book lately?
Who is blaming poor people for anything?Reich is a long time Democratic political operative and supporter of Bernie Sanders. He's a professor, lawyer and a former Secretary of Labor. He's an intelligent and accomplished man who unfortunately lost his way over the years. In an October 2023 he wrote in an essay that Joe Biden was "shrewd, careful, and calibrated".a great easily digestible look at myths about the economy by Robert Reich... how for the last 50 years the rich are increasingly leaving everyone behind in the US... and how, if Americans are upset with the direction of the country they should look to the rich instead of blaming the poor.
