Canada has false pride, maybe but at least it's not false and exaggerated. As to the government being an embarrassment, no not the government. Trudeau on the other hand, very much of an embarrassment, but no more so then the convicted felon about to take the reins south of the border.

For those that do, today Powell announced fewer rate cuts in 2025, than previously promised and the market took a dive. What changed between today and before the election? Clue, election interference! Powell promised the cuts to boost Bidenomics, which is a complete failure. Anyone with half a brain knows the price of eggs, however some bought into the BS. The liberals released a budget yesterday to fund the government another 3 months…over 1500 pages. Mike Johnson was and still may, allow it to pass….without reading the contents. He does not want to stir the pot. Trump and Musk are against it. They have zero to lose, shut down the damn government. Like the FBI/DOJ, Powell is part of the deep state, which is corrupt as the day is long. None of the rocket scientist on this platform thought to ask me why I am a duel citizen. As Forrest Gump said, stupid is as stupid does! However, I will give you a hint. For my business to do business for the Parliament, it was required. The United States government is a deep state and many are corrupt. My experience taught me, although to a lesser extent, Canada is no different. Government corruption is not good for the people, which is a primary reason Trump kicked ass! Sorry, I am used to legal documents that are not written with paragraphs.

Can you spot the difference? One is maybe worth engaging in coversation on a public forum, the other is a waste of time and simply should be ignored as the troll they are.

Once in a while things get a bit heated and even the best of us falls prey ro our inner deamons and becomes the troll, but it really shouldnt be something you lead with. As you say, if you're not willing to accept benign and non slandering critisim then maybe one should not post their opinion on public board.

How do you know what comments I have or haven't read? You don't. When I made a factual statement about a general rightward shift in the US, you responded with some gibberish about population growth in Washington state and Massachusetts. You consistently make ridiculous claims about what Trump is going to do because apparently you have an ability to predict the future.

If we take the condescension, sarcasm and insults out of your posts, there's not not much else left.

I'm new here but I'm a bit surprised by the number of people who stamp their feet and yell troll when someone doesn't agree with them. That tells me that either you have nothing constructive to say or maybe you're just lazy. If you're in love with the sound of your own voice, by all means press the ignore button. Think about it, out of all the individuals that have read this thread, only a few attacked me for expressing an opinion, which is based on documented facts. It is pretty evident most have zero experience within financial markets and probably live check to check, or off government entitlements. Mathematics is an absolute, the correct answer to the problem is always the same. Apparently the education system in Canada did not teach basic mathematics, or economics, or the people that refuse to accept Canada cannot compete with the US, slept thru class. Even the BBC reported that Canada and the EU will sustain horrible economic damage if Trump places tariffs on imports. NHK reported yesterday that Japan, Italy, Canada, Germany, France and the UK are holding secret meetings to discuss how to avoid tariffs. The CAD is 1.44 to the USD, which means I can drive to Calgary and buy real estate, or a Rolex very cheap. Why? I will not explain the dynamics of currency markets, but I suggest the well educated and cultured Canadians enroll in an Econ 101 class. Now for the moron that cannot read without paragraphs, proper punctuation and spelling, I apologize, it is SIRI’s fault🤯…Long live the Queen!

Its looking to me like Trump will switch the topic to complain about something else even if Canada 'secures' its border. He wants to apply pressure using mercantile tactics cause he thinks hes smartest. If hes successful the dollar will devalue and the Us can swoop in and buy Canadian companies up for pennies.

I also though it was the responsibility of a country to control its own border and give the citizens within freedom of movement, but what do I know.

America is a country founded by immigrants with it baked in to their economy. Once upon a time nobody wanted Italians, Irish, Polish, or generally any other Catholic peoples or Jews. This sentiment as a political cry is bassackward.

They already should, especially media ones. Postmedia (owner of the Vancouver Sun & Province, the National Post, Financial Post, Toronto Sun, and both Alberta papers) is all one company, and is owned by an American hedge fund.
So our "Canadian" news is tainted by allegiance to America & always serving their interests - break it up, sell it off, to Canadian invetors only.

$100 billion (an invented figure) is a trade surplus, and a lot of that because the US buys a lot of Canadian oil (via pipeline - no smuggling inside there). It goes both ways, but the orange clown does not understand how trade works; he wants something for nothing, and has a tantrum when he does not get it. Canada buys plenty of US-made things and US-grown things, so the balance of trade rises and falls all the time.

The trouble with Americans is they do things like sign treaties trade agreements and then immediately try to break the terms and backstab their partners. Every trade agreement we ever had with them, no matter who has been president, they always try to pull this shit - with Trump it is just more flagrant. There is no reciprocity or mutual respect, only the greasy mindset of a con artist trying to grift you or a defense lawyer trying to wiggle out from under the law. Their word is basically worthless, a fact known throughout the world.
Is the US acting like a trustworthy trade partner? NO. A trustworthy military ally? NO. The best course of action for any nation is to cut off any such agreements with them, blow up any idea of being defense allies. No more NORAD, no more NATO, no more Lima Group (we do not need them to make alliances in Europe, Asia, or elsewhere), and drop any US defense contractors from military procurements unless it is for something that nobody else makes. No more international support for any of their diplomatic initiatives or military power projection; no more Canadian enforcement of US sanctions against other nations.

Canada should restrict our energy exports to them, keep sovereign control of our strategic minerals, and ban them from owning any of our strategic resources or industries or data services. Enact some sort of value-based reciprocity where we get certain things that they have and we need, and in exchange, we exchange only as much of our exports as we need to get it. The trade figures will go back to even, and Trump will wrongly think he got something, but meanwhile the US will actually choke on industrial disruption and higher fuel costs for like 10 years, and their manufacturers will lose out in competition with others. Canada might even rebuild our industrial base of its own that was basically gutted in favour of US interests by the FTA and NAFTA. And we should crack down hard at the border - but on all the contraband (especially guns) and sketchy people flowing northwards from the US into Canada, because that is the real problem at the Canada & US border. The main thing that has been holding Canada's border security back has actually been us trying to maintain freer relations with the US and please the business community that hates restrictions on trade (like border inspections); we are actually the ones who suffer the effects of being open to them.

If those US relationships have turned unfriendly, if the business community's demands have actually put us in a bad position, then we should drop the "we are partners and friends" sentimental bullshit. From now on, keep the relationship arms-length and ice-cold.

maybe start with basic economics. the supply/demand curve.

there is no "destruction" of trading partners economies... there is only short term pain as these economies develop new trading "partners". Canada could join the EU. hell, we could join BRICS.

the economic world order that the US built and dominates becomes smaller. and they dominate less. the Yuan becomes the new world currency.

the things that the US produce that we do not simply become fabulous investment opportunities.

Considering that Putin only became a threat to Europe thanks to US actions which convinced him that Europe was just Washington's pawn (and converting nearby states to NATO was a prelude to an attack on Russia).
Again, if the Europeans remove Washington from the equation, or if Trump does it for them, Europe will be just fine. In fact, more than fine, because it will be free from the outside decision-maker who has actually jeopardized Europe's security again and again over the last 25 years, a country that is not even a democracy anymore. Canada can make an alliance with Europe by ourselves, and given Trump's recent statements about us, maybe it is better if we host some bases filled with European troops to deter any such attack; pledging to defend European democracies in exchange for that is a good deal for us.
