i'd suggest the "game" is always the same in the binary tensions between capitalism and socialism... when one side gets too much of an upper hand then the general state of things is not good for either side. the risk is always that one side has too much momentum and cannot be stopped. what you describe is the unfettered push by capitalism for control being exerted by the Trump administration.

Capitalism creates wealth. Socialism is the redistribution of wealth. Take away Capitalism and there is no Socialism.

Crazy thing Soros does it in the open while promoting voter participation and rule of law. Does he have an agenda ? Certainly. Is it always in line with what would be best for society ? Maybe not ...but at least he is not planning to flip the world order for his own power on his deathbed....if i recall he's in his mid 90s.
On the other hand Thiel would be quite happy if women would let men do the voting for them among other things . Pro democracy ? For you to decide

We have only had various forms of capitalism despite authoritarian regimes claiming otherwise.
Socialist states have simply been variations on fascism and communist states have simply been variations on totalitarianism.

does bc hydro create wealth? it sure does. and so do all public utilities. and does private capital own roads, bridges and other infrastructure? socialism provides the base for capitalism. its the appropriate mix that is important.
There are elements of capitalism in the current Communist China. Why is that? Because of the complete failure of doctrinaire Maoist communism. Mao thought it would be a great idea to copy the state control and central planning of his buddies in the Soviet union. The resulting "Great Leap Forward" was an unmitigated disaster. Millions starved to death because of collectivisation on the farms and industrial output collapsed. The Communist leadership realized that if they didn't introduce some free market reforms, the economy would collapse and people would come for their heads. So they did the smart thing and gave the people a little freedom. Just a little though, because the CCP will always be in charge. There are a lot of things people do in China not because they want to do them but because they are compelled to do them. When the "Communist" dictatorship didn't work out, they just changed it to a pseudo "Capitalist" dictatorship.
You had some of the right parts, they were just completely in the wrong order. It remains a top down Communist dictatorship and when they say jump, you better say, "how high"?
Does BC Hydro create wealth? No it does not. It provides a service and builds energy infrastructure. Public infrastructure is necessary. Where does Hydro get its money? From the government. Where does the government get its money? From taxpayers. How do taxpayers get money?
They work for it. If there's no taxpayers, there's no Hydro or government. So again, without capitalism, there can be no socialism. Did you happen to go to one of those schools that teaches people that 2+2=5? If you did, you should ask for your money back. Maybe you went on a scholarship, anything possible these days.

BC Hydro does generate revenue but it's not enough to pay for large capital projects like the Site C Dam. The government uses tax revenue to pay for dam construction. So I pay for the dam and then I pay for the electricity. I pay and I pay but I don't mind too much because I'm a big fan of electricity. Maybe not the "gotcha" question you thought it would be. You completely missed the point of my original post.
