Quite sad ! I remember the education comparison US vs Canada in the late 70s early 80s and being neck and neck .

Because of our public school system we are still hovering in 1st or 2nd place among educated people in the world while the US decoupling from the education for all mantra and their embrace of the private school system is drowning them . They find it easier to criticize the public school system and cut its funding than fixing it to lift everybody out of illiteracy.

I was looking at Texas representative Jim Talarico fighting for the public school system in Texas....quite the eye opener about the strategy the Republicans use to divert the funding from public to private . No wonder the US has educational trouble when you look at things closely... Shooting themselves in the foot is nothing to them as they would prefer blowing their legs off in case a kid across town could benefit from public money .
Nope!
People should google information before they post.
Canada might be in the top 20 countries in the world for education. But the facts about our public system are very hidden. When you graduate high school students that can barely read, due to woke politics of passing the kid along, so they won't feel embarrassed by being left behind a grade.

I hate to say it: When parents are looking to send their kids to school, they will look at private schooling first... Tells you how inadequate our public school system is.....

For private schools, it seem religious backed schools come out on top.

We are not 1 or 2 in the World. Google: Canadian public school vs the world

Not talking about pure performance in school compare to other countries but level of education.

The fear about wokeness , sexual education, sexual orientation, liberalism from the right is quite puzzling to me when kids have from the most tender age been exposed to so much more by conversations , walking the streets, tv , movies, medias and the internet . So much so that it makes most of us laugh as you would need to cut of a kid totally out of society and cut off their phones/internet access to prevent a kid to be exposed to all of what the right despise. Is it legitimate sometimes ? Yes . Should those parents trust the way they raised their kids to handle what society can throw at them ? Love , reasoning, common sense, morale values , knowledge, openness and trust have always been the recipe for a successful upbringing. School increases the knowledge and critical sense in a kid not the other way around.

you clearly forget what it was like in school

pure performance, you mean wokeness, like in BC where you don't get a grade anymore you get a "feeling" that has no value

level of edumaction is higher in Canada, hardly, we're above the U.S, but barely

we have well paid employees, in our Edmuaction system, with too many in the admin, again, better than the U.S.

increases the knowledge and critical sense, sure, if we had a better system that isn't being taken over by activists on the left
who don't want to be judged on performance, results

cause why would you want to expect results when it comes to educating children for the betterment of them and society

that would be the ideal

have you not interacted with anyone who recently graduated?

they're as stupid as always, can't do basic math when giving you change, if you actually give them cash and the machine doesn't give them the number

go on TicTok, Youtube, Instagram, that's your measuring stick

and it's not very long

I sometimes see on myFacebook feed posts with a fairly simple equation, people then give their answers to the equation. Surprising how many people give wrong answers to basic math questions.

I agree we're not 1 or 2 in the world....
Google isn't really a reliable source.
The problem is the source of information. If you google search, you'll end up with many different rankings depending on your source.
In order to effectively compare something you would need to research the reliability of your sources, compare the differences in the metrics they're using and come to a supported conclusion that you would still need to defend with rational metrics. Not many people willing to put in the work for a discussion forum, where most (including me) already believe they know the answers.
Regardless of your source,.. the point is that we can all do better, logically private is more accountable and therefore reliably better,.. and the USA can deliver excellent educations but only for those who can afford them, everyone else is treated like a mushroom because that's what those in power want, easily malleable and gullible lower class workers to power the capitalist dream.
Cheers.

Somebody has a very cynical view of the world.
A large percentage of a child's success in school is due to the support and involvement of the parents.
I think that our school system has many inherent flaws, and societal expectations that make it challenging to provide an easy path to academic success, but for those that want to succeed,.. the path is there. It takes very little time to teach someone how to count back change... and if you're not willing to do it, you're part of the problem
I always took my kids shopping with me. Taught them how to work out what discounts actually meant in terms of dollars not percentage,.. and how to keep track of how much they were spending so that before they got to the register they knew what their cost would be (half the time the machine is wrong because the prices haven't been updated). The school system doesn't need to teach you these life skills, that's not what it's for, the school system is there to provide you with basic concepts and the ability to learn and apply that learning effectively as well as specific training in the specialization that you have chosen.
Your focus on "woke" bashing seems a trifle overdone. Labeling policies as "woke" and despising them for the label does not invalidate the premises they're based on. We need to move away from grouping initiatives as "woke" and seeing "great" and "awful" in the one word. Take the initiatives at face value. Apply those values to the world around you and critically assess whether those values matter to you or not. You'll need to consider these things from a variety of viewpoints as it's likely that your own opinions (like mine) have biases and prejudices, but take a deep breath and listen to what others have to say.. consider their points carefully and make up your mind on each initiative individually.
Woke doesn't matter. Let's make this world a better place regardless of the labels.
Happy Monday everybody.

I think you miss the point about woke.... Woke wants you to be compliant....
Woke is a mastery of psychology to get people to comply.
Whether its a person who belongs to an organization, who should not speak out about its society problems or failings. Here I am talking about actual organizations who compel their members to comply. eg. Jordan Peterson who was judged on his political leanings not on his actual job. Basicly I thought the courts and organization took away his right for free speech, and his ability to criticize the government.

So fuck woke people.....

With word salad like that, you could write future speeches for Kamala and all her woke word salad friends.

I want kids to have grades, learn to adapt, strive for something, not just feed on empty platitudes. Education should equip kids to succeed in the world, not delude them into thinking everything is OK. It’s not, and they have a role to play to make the world a better place. We need to develop courage and leadership, not victims and pussies. Woke matters.
