lol, i was just doing it to prove a point. he's the one that started the whole thing by me just agreeing with his advice. there was another error too but i see that he edited his post.wilde said:I found it, do I get a prize? No, of course not BP. My point is that in Vancouver, there are so many greenbacks (US Dollars) around that EVERYONE exchanges them and gives you close to the going rate. It's not that I expect it, it just is. The rate of exchange is usually pretty near the official rate. Sure, it may be off a point or two but 20%? I've had to use USD maybe 4 or 5 times for such transactions with women and NEVER had anything near that charged to me. It's always been straight-up. I bring other people up there as well and same thing.BushPilot said:You're losing sight of the simple fact that when you come to Vancouver you're in a foreign country. You wouldn't go to Venezuela and try to spend your Mexican pesos in a butcher shop, would you? If someone is willing to accept your foreign currency when you're in Canada, you can either be grateful and take whatever exchange they offer, or piss off to the nearest bank or currency exchange counter to change it yourself. Any attitude different than that is straight up ignorance.
Yeah, I guess that it would be different than when the rate was higher. Hey, 20% ain't bad though and it isn't parity (yet).smackyo said:lol, funny post. but for real, caliscott, herb the perb and most of you other yanks on here seem like the cool 49% of people down there that are not morons but for real your u.s. dollar isn't as widely accepted here anymore at businesses. with the exchange rate being the highest its been in some 12 years or more for us, having to go through the hassel of exchanging it ourselves just isn't worth the time.

I think that Y'all are assuming that it's arrogance and being an American I know that in many cases, it probably IS. But it is not always.
I totally do not expect it from them and am like the last person in this hemisphere to ever be arrogant about anything. IOW, I am not at all your typical American. It's just that shit happens and sometimes you go through what you've pre-exchanged (fuck man, I can burn through cash, especially THERE.) and you need to get a pack of smokes, artwork or some pussy and all you have left is USD's, ya know. The money is so interchangeable that nobody seems to mind becuause there's no hassle for them to use or deposit these funds themselves. When I was there a couple of weeks ago and saw an SP I would up giving her 2 us C notes and a canadian 20 (for 260). She was totally cool with it, no problem at all. I never expect it and am always apologetic but never have had anyone put out by it. I am surprised that Creole is.
It's the currency from an adjacent country as well. Peso's wouldn't fly there in Canada either. Besides, you'd need to check too much luggage to bring enough!
I know a lot about finances cause that's my profession, but I don't know a hell of a lot about exchancing US to Cdn and back again, unless were dealing in 100K+ amounts. But if I were in your shoes I'd check out both US and Cdn places, particularly Blaine or some other border town. Cash registers in Blaine actually have dual tills, one in US and the other in Canadian. Years ago I use to go there and I felt that I got very good value for my Canadian Peso.smackyo said:a $1.25 and his bank is losing money seeing as how our dollar is 82 cents u.s. and not 75 cents. i think his info is a bit out of date. also caliscott i hate to tell you but you are wrong, it is not as easy and few places accept american money now. if you know vancouver people you know that they do as little work as they have to do and making an extra 20% on u.s. cash that they have to exchange themselves cuts into their time. sounds funny but its true.
i've seen it personally and i've seen americans cause a scene and make a fuss cause their cash wasn't accepted. well there is an easy way around that. exchange your money. also yes i see your point about only exchanging as much as you have to as i am aware of the rape you receive in the u.s. trying to exchange canadian money. that being said yes some places still take it if you really don't have anything else but they are not happy about it and don't accept it with a smile on their face like they used to over the last ten years.
and bigmoe69er, take a fucking pill dude. i agree with you on my first post and you jump down my throat. sounds like you need a hug or a tampon or something.
bigmoe69er said:Fuck off, Smackyo! Don't project your problems onto me. Most SPs will not accept U.S. currency "at par", even though you were subsequently correct in your comment about coming out ahead when exchanging the currency.
As I said earlier, fuck off, Smackyo. Your reality testing is becoming poor.
Go Away Smackyo
The word you were trying to spell is volatile, Smackyo. Your projections are pathetic. You are a frustrated, immature "dude".

HOLY SHIT I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!!!! NO WONDER THOSE HOSERS ARE SO EASY GOING!Herb_The_Perb said:How does this work?

What a country!!!!
lol, whens the last time it took ya 10 minutes to "drop" by a bank? you must not be from vanouver. depending on where you live the trip can vary. but seriously no joke whenever i go to the bank it's at least an hour long affair, usually more. first you have the fucking traffic to deal with. with no highways here going anywhere is taking the long way. then theres the never ending lines in the bank cause everyone just happens to be going the same time you are.FuZzYknUckLeS said:Under today's exchange rate:
200.00 USD = 240.919 CAD
The difference is a decent fuckin dinner. Definitely worth taking 10 minutes and stopping by a bank for, seeing as you'll likely be converting a fair amount more than just 200 beans for the entire trip.
As for an SP accepting their posted CAD rate on par with USD, I'd personally tell her to pound sand. Theres plenty of nice grrrlz that won't stiff ya on the exchange. Besides, the SP's that exploit this are also the ones most likely to be watching the clock, charging the hidden fees, etc. You know the type.![]()

for real man going to the bank to change any less then lets say 800 u.s. is a waste of time or a perfectly good day. like i said though these experiences will vary if you live in a neighborhood with your bank within walking distance on the corner then thats cool but not everyone has that.
Actually, I am from Vancouver and its never taken me 10 minutes to drop by a bank to exchange money. If I had to though, I can whip over to the bank 1/2 block from where I work any time of the day and likely do it in under 10 minutes if I hit it at the right time. Little thing we call 'time management'.smackyo said:lol, whens the last time it took ya 10 minutes to "drop" by a bank? you must not be from vanouver. ....
no dittman it has everything to do with ettiquette and/or being the ugly american. if you just pull out a wad of u.s. dollars and expect it to be taken than that is the epitome of arrogant ugly american. unlike caliscott and herb the perb that use it in an emergency circumstance and ask if they take it or give an explanation as to why they have to use it, which is usually understood and accomodated but even that is becoming more infrequent now with the higher exchange and the extra hassle attributed to it.dittman said:herb your dumber than I thought if thats possible. It has nothing to do with etiquette or being the ugly american. It has everything to do with making it simple. Besides in vancouver and victoria as in most if not all canadien cities, towns and villages, most businesses accept green backs because they make money of the exchange.
