The US revolutionary army had been disbanded when the 2A was adopted. The purpose was that a pool of ready troops could be called on if needed in case of foreign invasion or domestic uprising.
The central government was still having problems getting some places to heed its authority.
It was not created so incels could walk into Starbucks with an assault rifle.

And slave uprisings. That was a big reason as well.

I would think they were thinking of the roman citizen army (land owners) come to the defense of the country.

Look at the name "Law Enforcement", all governments need a way to enforce the laws they pass. Throughout history the guys at the top have used violence to enforce their rules and if someone was way out of order, they hanged them....

Before guns, people had to physically enforce the laws by beating the culprit, jail, labour camps, public whipping etc...

The video says alot about the cops themselves ( lack of training, but especially lack of discipline). But look at the system that has allowed such events to happen. In the last 30 years with video being shared, these incidents have come to the publics attention.

Public law still needs to be enforced. or your society as you know it will turn to chaos and mayhem... (ok, its scary that places are already lost to the public law enforcement due to crime)/

2 to chest, 1 to the head. The 2 to the chest is for body armour/drug induced vigor ( the chest is the largest target and most likely to knock the suspect down). The 1 to the head is to make sure the culprit is dead (ooopsy- for various reasons cops shouldn't being using this one unless there are other circumstances). Also you save on ammunition in case there are other bad guys. If you cannot see the target, get cover, take a look at the situation.... The cops should be counting their shots, a empty mag (of 6-7 shots), should tick off the old common sense warning to the re-evaluation of the situation. If you shoot a whole mag and nothing is moving down range, re-evaluate.

Seems there is more budget for bullets then for actually training police for confrontation.

The reality if subject is moving, its harder to hit a moving target then someone sitting in a truck. When I originally watched the video, I thought the police were shooting at the person beside the truck, couldn't see the person in the truck...

The other thing is the misconceived notion of the "wellness check".

The public sees it as a good thing, the police helping out to see if someones all right.

To the police it could mean the person is:
1. Incapacitated (so trouble is expected somehow and not necessary from the person being checked on)
2. Off-meds/on drugs (and acting out, so expect trouble)
3. Additional persons could be involved (more things to keep track of), so expect trouble.

The combination most police hope for is drugs and guns. (sarcastic....)

They're as blood thirsty as the canadian police is. But at least in the US you can sue and get something. Here, good luck. They're untouchable and they get rewarded for beating up and killing people (leave WITH pay).

Everytime I hear people talk shit about cops, there are two words that come to mind: "Unreliable Narrator".

These people tend to conflate their experiences to bolster pity for themselves and their causes, while selectively omitting key details and replacing it with impractical solutions.

I won't defend the cops either, the phrase "corrupt cop" means it's not unheard of,....but then again, what were YOU, 'the unreliable narrator' doing that created a situation for the cops to intercede in the first place? Exposing yourself to the possibility that the cop being summoned would be a corrupt one? And even if it was a good honest cop, and they cite how unrealistic your expectations were in resolving the issue to your satisfaction, why would that be the cops fault in the end? That he needs to break the law, so YOU would be happy?... that's not how all this works.

Look at OP's news article: Here's the rub.... TYT, right there is a fail.... They haven't been relevant since the Bush Jr era, when the only thing they were good for was joining at laughing at Jr. reading "My Pet Goat" during 9/11, and claiming "Mission Accomplished" a billion times. Then Obama got in, and their show was mainly about sucking his dick. Then when Rogan, Shapiro, Pool, and Crowder started making the scene, and the "Woke Mind Virus" became more apparent in the digital vernacular, TYT's viewership evaporated to the point of bankruptcy. ...even gleaned somewhere that Ana Kasparian plans on leaving TYT because they're all played out....so to the OP, this is your authority on the matter? ACAB cuz TYT, lol, sez so?

...then you have this video....

@02:35..... so the cops say "let me see those hands"....and he didn't...... "Unreliable Narrator"..... TYT and the Mother's narrative says the cops went immediate for their guns and open fire. But that's not what happened. They gave him a chance to 'show his hands', and he didn't. Look at the position of the truck. Look at where the police pulled up and took position....No chance to de-escalate? And what? see the cops get shot themselves? They couldn't see over the truck's dash but he wasn't compiling with the cops to show hands in the first place.

@04:30.....this "news" report said, he's had violent outbursts, and suicidal thoughts, and HAD A SHOTGUN WITH HIM IN THE FRONT SEAT OF THE TRUCK!....(funny how the 'reporter' fumbled through that piece of FACT as if he was trying to 'omit' it for the sake of his narrative).

IMO, there was plenty of time to comply with the cops, they saw them pull up to him, he knew he had a gun in the front seat. the suspect had 15 whole seconds to do the 1 second action to raise his hands...and he didn't. This person with a shotgun in the cab of the truck, didn't not comply. Cops took action, end of story.

I mean, what does 'the left' expect to happen in this flash instant moments? Hoping the cop would go against their instincts to protect themselves, just to give a so-called 'mentally ill' person another chance? A chance to give up quietly? or a chance to use the shotgun on the cops?
