Before I say anything else here, I'd just like to say that Honey's murder was a horrible tragedy that shook the PERB community to the core...I remember reading the original postings about the whole thing with complete shock and disbelief.

Now, on to my thoughts on the plea bargain:

I don't think the fact that she worked as an escort had anything to do with deciding the take the plea bargain. More than likely, the Crown was concerned that if they took it to a trial they would lose the case and then Hickey (the killer) would walk free. Remember: all it takes is REASONABLE doubt to find someone not guilty. And chances are the fact that she was an escort and was doing cocaine & drinking would not sit well with a jury.

Now it will all come down to the sentencing...the maximum sentence available is for manslaughter is life in prison. That being said, the judge will probably look at the "troubled upbringing of the defendant", the "lack of intent to kill" (according to the defense attourney - who, in my opinion, is complete scum) and the circumstances surrounding the death (from the article: " night of unfortunately drinking and cocaine use and drug use that just went sideways") and give him 5 years - with a 2-for-1 credit for the time he's already spent in jail waiting for the trial...which means he'll spend 6 months in prison.

Which is effing-ridiculous.

One of her relatives mentioned Hickey was her pimp. She had him in her life due to the death of her boyfriend (car accident which she witnessed).
He also said she made up to 20K a month.
They tried to convince her to quit that job but to no avail.
It's in the Province newspaper.

Very sad story indeed.

I'm not surprised by any of this...in fact, the weak verdict of manslaughter is almost to be expected.

Also, I think they could of picked a more flattering picture of Honey.

On the other side of the coin, @ 20k a month, Honey could of left this business within a few months, go to school and do something less risky...like a real job. But no, the easy money and freedom of being an SP was the greater lure.

I had no doubt her profession would be used in his defense.

That being said it wouldn't have mattered what she did for a living this is pretty much the way the Canadian justice system deals with murder. He will be back on the streets in no time and I have a funny feeling this won't be the last act of violence he will ever commit.

I feel for the family and for poor sweet Honey. SP's are people with hearts and souls and feelings and one day I hope that we lose the negative connotations that go along with our vocational choices.

I personally was very close to Tammy, Aaron was not her Pimp, he wasn't in her life for more than a mere three months. Honey was in the biz long before he hit puberty. It is very sad to see her brought up and dissected so often.

Here's a question pooners. If you suddenly died, and I read about it, would you like me to run to this board and post your handle and your real name together? Then maybe your family could read all of your reviews, and your posts? I think everyone of you would answer a big NO! Just because she chose to work as an SP doesn't mean she didn't have the right for privacy as well! Thanks to the SP who started the thread on this board and outed her!

I didn't see anything in the link that said he was her pimp. Tammy supported her family back east, and helped out many people. She was a very sweet, loving friend. This lady never let the easy money get to her head.

You are right, they definetly could have picked a better picture of her. That was my first thought this morning when I saw the picture. She is probably cussing everyone out for using that picture. I am also sure she isn't appreciative of her family talking so much of her business to the newspapers.

Now can everyone please respect her, and let her rest in Peace?

I sympathize with you, Sarah - an escort's private life should be maintained on this board, even in death. And I'd like to think most pooners on this board realize that too. Unfortunately it's too late for her. Judging from that article, the press and public already knew she was an escort and that will make for some media sensationalism with the trial.

Sarah, one thing to remember...Honey had her picture in the Georgia Straight for as long as I can remember, not to mention other websites...not exactly the best method for a private SP life...
