It's not really news that they won, is it?
Notley was a dead duck as soon as the two Albertan right-wing parties united into one. 2015 was an anomaly caused by First Past The Post voting and an even split between right and far-right parties. This time, even if she got more support than 2015, the NDP would still lose, and that was as close to guaranteed as you can ever get in politics.

It annoys me that the media - all of them - treated this election as if there could ever be anything but this result. They were determined to cover it as a "horse race" anyway, talking about "if Notley does this", or "if Kenney says that". Blah blah blah, what a bunch of bullshit. They're just wasting air time and giving news anchors, spin doctors, & pundits an excuse to wank off.

The reality is that Jason Kenney - or any other right winger, even a fucking mannequin in a blue t-shirt - could have won this election sitting on his couch the whole time. Why? Because it's Alberta, that's why.

You know they're paid for quantity not quality, right?

Exactly which news outlet gave an indication that Notley was going to win or even might win? All coverage I saw was pretty definitive in the fact that the polls were clear that Kenney would win - it was just a question of how many seats the NDP could hold onto.

i watched visits to talk to people in the rural areas on cbc news... i was literally shocked. talk about inbred hillbillys! not much "book learnin" i suspect. one saloon had a US and Confederate flag hanging over the bar. people were wearing MAGA baseball caps. i was truly shocked that places like this existed in Canada. guess its the influence of foreign owned oil companies and Fox "News".

Any Canadian wearing a MAGA hat and displaying a confederate flag is too dumb to be embarrassed. Maybe they're wearing that hat because their dunce cap is in the wash.

i never said that they weren't great people... they are great people. just in dire need of some education and logic, otherwise you get people like doughboy Jason, not a good person, hyping the false narratives and using dog whistle words like "conservative" (what the fuck does that word mean anyways, like is it some kind of uniform or something?) to scare these great people who don't know any better in his bid for power. Jasons not going to be able to suddenly get the world price of crude oil up, and he's only going to piss off the rest of Canadians, frighten away another class of people who were coming to Alberta to diversify its economy, prop up foreign oil interests, the ususal... and he'll blame "liberals" or "socialists" or some other word that has no real definition to the people who react to it.

I'm certain the voting public we're doing a protest vote against Federal Liberals and BC NDP. Alberta NDP have been doomed since there was no change in the pipelines and any party that's Centre Left leaning.

Kenny as a garden gnome still would have won.

In your previous post you refer to rural Albertans as "inbred hillbillys" and now you refer to them as "great people". An insult followed by a compliment doesn't negate the insult. And now the word conservative is a dog whistle? Let's just call a spade a spade. There was an election, people voted and you apparently are upset because a good number of people voted in a manner you didn't want them to vote. It should go without saying, but people are not obligated to vote with your conscience - people vote their own conscience.

Kenny referenced the BC NDP and Trudeau Liberals every chance he could.
Like his federal buddy Scheer, I consider him a front man for a bunch of plutocrats.
Both talk a lot of nonsense, but their spiel sounds great to their target demographic.

modern societies are complex organizations with complex problems that require complex solutions... the electorate need to be highly cognizant of that and ready to take on the responsibility of learning about it. politicians need to inform people of those complexities and not just do the "those DOG WHISTLE NAME HERE people are coming for us!". people have to understand that they are being CONTROLLED. yeah, greenpeace does it to. it'll go on forever i guess.

i saw people on this program say that "conservative" means that they just want to be left alone. well, go live in the woods then! they got no problem using our "socialist" democracy, electricity, pluming, EI, medical, education etc etc... its hilarious. i saw a great british documentary recently about "survivalists" living in Utah or some god forsaken place. listened to freaky conservative survivalist radio all day, spent $900 a month on vitamins... "survived" on social security payments! socialists!

and yeah, Alberta takes a step in the direction of diversifying their economy, thinking like educated "city folk" instead of believing that we're not heating up the atmosphere or that Hillary Clinton maybe wasn't selling childrens body parts from a pizza parlor in Brooklyn... but no. they don't like change.

its just a rant... its not going to change. its the human condition. its always a fight to keep demagogues out of office. think Albertan hillbillies know what that means?! not a library for miles....

Lol! Do you even know what a plutocrat is? Trudeau would be more of a plutocrat than Scheer. And if the wealthy elite is merely an old boys club, the old boys tend to look out for each other.

Yes; many complexities in life, society, etc. And apparently you have formulated an opinion about a segment of that complex society (i.e. rural Albertans) based on a television program about certain people in Utah. You implore us to learn, make reference to lack of libraries and thus infer that rural Albertans need to change and get educated. Be the change you want to see in the world. Perhaps take your own advice and try and learn about rural Albertans that doesn't involve watching a television program about people in Utah. I will agree with you on one point: you are clearly ranting.

Let me school you a little on Rural People.......
That guy that shows up to fix your toilet ,or cut some firewood on your property.....he might just be a Doctor, or University Professor.
There are in fact people that live in the backwoods that can be classed as inbred, or hillbillies, but if your ever let into the inner circle of mountain people....which is highly unlikely .....you'll find a vast majority of them are independently wealthy, or educated.
You see we want you too think we are a bunch of uncivilized , knuckle dragging, slack jawed yokels......when in fact we are most definatley not, for the most part.
The vast numbers of them that have chosen this life is staggering...I know it's hard to believe but they prefer to live the way they do, instead of being surrounded by concrete ,pavement, and people.
I will attend a social function, and see a cowboy that only owns a horse and saddle, sitting next to a Famous Rock Star, Famous Artist ,Judge, or ex Vancouver Doctor, and he will be treated with dignity ,respect and as an equal.
We were never forced into this life....we prefer it above anything else, and it's the bond we have with each other...and sometimes " each other" might be all we have to depend on.
We don't mind you have a lower opinion of us, ... because you will never understand us ,and who we are.....the best way to get along with us, .....is to leave us alone.

There were so many of them at that Yellow Vest convoy too. They love to call themselves "patriots" - all while displaying a foreign flag, singing a foreign anthem, asserting supposed rights from a foreign constitution, in the name of the Founding Fathers who, let's be honest, were long-ago traitors to our Crown. Also notice how they love the Yellow Vest protest idea, which was invented in France, but they always make it clear how much they resent Francophones.

i'd be happy to leave you alone if you just stopped voting! i mean, if you can't simply use logic instead of knee jerk gut reaction like Pavalovs dog after decades of plutocrat and global cabal indoctrination. ever wonder why Albertans are somehow the "different" Canadians? Alberta the center of "conservatism" (again, what the fuck does that mean)? do you think it would ever be that way without... OIL? no chance. i proposed this enough in the past. Albertan oil should be NATIONALIZED. enough sending pennies on the dollar to international elite. why do you never ask foreign oil companies to "leave you alone"? again, look at Norway... they get their own oil out of the ground and now have a trillion dollars in the bank. one million per person. want the rest of Canada to support pipelines? when hordes of cash are pouring into public coffers that everyone can enjoy then watch those pipelines go up lickety split! for now its just... oh, Albertans are complaining again cause they want to shovel shit in our back yard for free. no, the knuckle dragers are drooling too much. Jasons got the dog whistle out. he's pumpin gas into his huge truck that he needs to fill up with cash from the oil lobby.

and that tough cowboy gunslinger "leave me alone" stuff is melodramatic bullshit. you want lonestar stuff then go to Afghanistan. the Taliban are tough cowboy gunslingers... no taxes support a paid army to protect you there. the kind of cowboy you're talking about wouldn't last ten seconds in that environment. i appreciate that people can have a beautiful lifestyle in rural communities... but they need to leave us alone when they have no fuckin idea how to vote rationally. don't want to pay taxes? then its Taliban time mofo, good luck with that!

So your whole argument boils down to "vote the way I want you to vote"? Everyone can vote the way they want to vote, that is democracy. And I would beg to differ on your assertion that people opposed to increased oil production would change their tune if oil production in Canada was nationalized: some people just don't like the oil business period - nationalized or privatized I don't think that would really change anything as it relates to people's positions on increased oil production or new pipelines.
