It really shouldn't come as a surprise that their pace of spending is not sustainable:

"A report scheduled to be released by the US Treasury Department tomorrow is expected to show the true deficit in the Bush administration's 2006 federal budget to be an astounding $3.5 trillion in the red, not $248.2 billion as previously reported. "

"The $248 billion federal budget deficit figure results from what basically amounts to a cash flow analysis," Williams explained. "On a cash basis, the Treasury takes all the tax revenue, including Social Security taxes, as current income. The trick is that Treasury essentially steals the money that comes in on Social Security taxes, without accounting for any offsetting Social Security liability. When you run your accounting that way, the Treasury gets to report a federal budget deficit that dramatically reduces the real figure."

"Congress a few years ago mandated that the Treasury had to report one report each year that used GAAP accounting," Williams told WND. "Then, when you figure in all liabilities including Social Security and Medicare, the real 2006 deficit is huge by comparison. What I expect to show up on Friday is a real federal budget deficit of $3.5 trillion or more, not the $248.2 billion earlier reported."
"Even worse," Williams continued, "the U.S. Government's negative net worth widened to $49.4 trillion in 2005. For the first time, total government liabilities have topped $50 trillion, and the number is continuing to grow. The United States is bankrupt, whether the Bush administration wants to admit it or not."

I mentioned this before but a friend of mine in the adult website business says that small businesses are getting keelhauled by the IRS for minor arithmetic errors.

They are truly desperate.

I doubt even the Chinese bankers have that kind of money available to once again lend to the US.

Elect a dumbass Republican as President and watch all of the money he borrows to cover his debts. Jesus fuck isn't this the same pattern of financial disaster Dubyah followed when his oil company was going tits up? Except he borrowed from the Saudis at that time.

The right wing mantra in the U.S. rails on and on about "tax and spend" Democrats, but in my lifetime the biggest deficits were run up by Republicans Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. Cutting taxes (primarily for the benefit of the already well-to-do) is the Holy Grail for these clowns who paint themselves as fiscally responsible but then do everything possible to prove, once elected, that they are anything but.

I've been audited several times by the IRS, the last time was exceptionally rough -threatened with prosecution and jail, etc. All this due to technical discrepancies. It was the full strap-on experience (and not with the reputed tender administrations of the lovely Miss T)!

So I left NY for Vancouver and lived very well with a very favorable exchange rate - 50% at one time. Since Bush II the US dollar has plummeted and so has my income. I earn everything in US$'s.

P.S. I'll be sworn in as a spanking new Canadian in early January.
