I recently hooked my roomie's pc to my network. She is using a Mac and I'm using a PC. Every three hours or so, my computer will lose the internet. I have to restart it to get it back on. Is there an incompatibility when using a Mac on the same network as a PC?

Second question. When I lose the internet, I can still surf perb. Is it because its locally hosted on the shaw network, or is it some sort of wierd perverted computer bug that allows me to surf here but no where else?

I had no problem running a Mac and PC on the same network connected wirelessly to a Linksys wireless router. On the other hand, I now no longer have a network set up at home and only have one computer using the Internet connection (Airport Extreme Base Station sitting between ADSL modem and computer). Occasionally I lose connection to the Internet. To gain back Internet connection, I turn off the wireless network card and turn it back on. No need to restart. Is your roomie having the same problem on her Mac or just you having trouble?

Sorry, don't know the answer to your second question.

i would check the firmware on your router. You can go to the manufacturer's website and d/l. I had problems with a SMC one and that fixed it. I didn't think of that until after I spent hours with looking at the computer, the cat cables, everything else except the stupid router.
