Whether Trump is a racist or not, this "shithole" statement doesn't prove anything. When I used to refer to Liverpool as a shithole in the 70's & 80's it didn't mean I hated Liverpudlians (nor their accent, football team, Greenall's beer nor Cilla Black! Or their skin colour!). Far from it. It reflected frustration and dismay that the "Leaders", national and local, Labour and Tory, had allowed one of my favourite places to become a shithole. My guess is that Trump simply wishes that Haiti wasn't such a shithole so there wouldn't be so many desperate people, regardless of skin colour, desperate to leave for the US. . Maybe Trump is a racist but using coarse language to acknowledge that Haiti is a pretty desperate place doesn't define it one way or the other..

and bringing them into the US, Europe, Canada, ect...

how does that improve the lives of the people in the shitholes?

all you're doing is shifting the problem

no one wants to look into it

but, it's diminishing returns, basic math, more isn't always better

like it or not there is a point where more people is harmful

don't believe me, look at China/India, despite their gains, they still have way too many people in poverty

and always will

people don't like to share, delude yourself all you want, people are greedy

the US is a great example, as you point out

despite it's wealth, there are plenty of shitholes
A perfect example of what you say is the "gumball immigration" video on youtube. If nations populations breed exponentially then immigration is just a band aid and in the grand scheme of things countries like Canada/USA/Britain are just IMPORTING the problem from other countries and thusly making their own country worse off.Canadadians got hoodwinked last Federal election about the big "Syrian" crisis and it devolved into a bidding war for which political party would take more Syrian "refugees" and no surprise the Lieberals WON.All told that well meaning Socialist gesture has cost Canadian tax payers about 480 MILLION.....then of course there are the hiccups of this policy such as the Syrian immigrant in Ontario who was charged with assault after he BEAT his wife with a hockey stick.....he thought it was OK and his defence in court was...."nobody told me I was not allowed to do this in Canada"

When it comes right down to it Trump called a spade a spade.....he did not sugar coat it.....he was not diplomatic....he did say(if it is true of being overheard) what most people and feel and that ALL Leftist politicians wont say.It is the unvarnished truth and it ignores Political Correctness.

Take a look at Germany right now and ask how that socialist apologist government is doing for that country vis A vis the current immigration/refugee policy....same goes for Sweden and the UK.The latter 2 have areas in major cities there are "no go" zones for white people that even the police fear to go to.

When it comes down to brass tacks Haiti is a shithole that has been run by dictators who looted the treasury for the last 50 years and the same goes for the tin pot dictatorships in Africa.

I may have not been born to a well heeled rich family in Canada and thus got to inherit multi generational wealth but I was born here and I have busted my ass and I seriously object to the Socialist agenda of mass importing "immigrants" just for the sake of doing so........that policy has severly fucked over the UK.

According to reports I have heard, Trump made the shithole remarks about African countries also, not just Haiti.

Doesn't Trump realize this is a government meeting, conducting work on behave of his nation? It is not like he is in a locker room engaged in a private conversation where he can brag about sexual assaults on women.

Trump is a bigot, plain and simple. He has proved it time and time again. Rather than speaking up against it, storm rider, you rationalize and try to explain it. This suggests that you are one too.
The thing is, Trump further suggested that he prefers people from Norway to migrate instead which makes his comments very racist indeed. What makes him think that Norwegians wants to migrate to the US in the first place?

While many of those countries do have problems he should be concentrating on improving the lives of his own citizens who live in areas of the USA one could refer to as "shit holes."

When you are the Leader of the USA or as some say the Leader of the Free World you simply cannot say certain things.
Even if you think them, you cannot say them, even at 3 am all alone in a broom closet in the basement of the White House.
Unfortunately President Narcissistic Liar Cry Baby Genius doesn't understand this.
When he took office half the world hated the USA. When he leaves it will likely be 90%.
I truly do feel sorry for the average American citizen.

Cheers
J
Yes, absolutely correct! USA has lost its place in the world stage, thats for sure.

It's not 'according to the leftist media', it's according to Trump...Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Senator (R) even called him on the carpet for those remarks. As much as his base would like us to believe that it's some conspiracy led by the media, there's far too much evidence provided by Trump himself for that argument. Is he a racist? yes. Bigot? yes. Misogynist? absolutely. Unfortunately, we've made our bed.
If you want a conspiracy theory, what if Trump has been in the pocket of Putin for the last decade and this is now 'payback' time?
Maybe you're right. Maybe much of his businesses are pretty much own by the Russian. He suffered a few bankruptcies in the past. God knows how he recovered from them. Maybe the Russians were the ones who safe his ass. We will never know until he shows the American people his income tax.

I wonder how the average person would describe Haiti, Somalia or the Congo.

Haven't been to Haiti, but it has been the basket case of the Caribbean forever. Not necessarily the fault of the people living there, but it is dysfunctional and dependent of foreign money to achieve even basic standards for the majrity of citizens.

Have been to Somalia and The Congo, and I can say, while there are physical places of beauty, and some decent people, the places are shit holes with no functioning central governments, no social services, tribal mentality, brutality, corruption and total dependence of foreign aid. Again, not the fault of eveyone there, but successions of corrupt governments have looted the country far more than any colonialist powers did.

There are a lot of shit hoe countries and a lot of places in America and Cada I'd describe as shitholes, so while it was crude, Trump's descriptions wasn't innaccurate.

Trump's descriptions were dead on the mark. The only people outraged are the Leftists that dont like Political correctness brought to light/put under scrutiny. These same Leftists be they politicians/media are they ones pushing the agenda of "climate change" where in a few years Canada if still under the Socialist yoke under Trudeau will buy "carbon credits" to lower Canada's green house gas emissions ......will Canada lower it's emissions?.....not a fucking chance...but Canadian tax payer money will be shifted/sent to 3rd world countries so that they dont need to be "developed".

Being diplomatic is (or implied to be) a part of his job description. He failed. This can cause economic losses, even loss of American lives, maybe years down the road.

^ Agree. All we need is another excuse for young, dis-illusioned (mostly) men to get fired up about the arrogant west by an influential terrorist leader...

Three points:
1. The "Leader of the Free World" does not get the same 'bye' that the average citizen gets for his/her language/etiquette. The President represents the country, not just the hard-liners or xenophobes. Speak & act accordingly. This isn't about PC, its about respecting other people in the world.

2. America was built-up from immigrants from previously "shithole" countries. All the pride of St. Patrick's Day forgets how rough life was in Ireland back in the 1800's and how unwelcome Irish immigrants were in the US. Italians were not treated or viewed any better. But people with the courage to come over an ocean into the unknown worked and scraped by and built-up a strong country. Now, why wouldn't we (speaking for America) want the same courageous, hard-working people to STILL come here? Those that make the effort (whether physical or administrative) to emigrate show the work-ethic and smarts that I'd love to work with; I don't care how "shithole" their country was.

2a. To the OP's point on Haiti, why should the citizens be penalized due to the despicable actions of a long-serving dictator? I think most of society applauded the courage of the North Korean soldier who escaped under gun-fire into the DMZ; why do we not welcome people coming through dangers ALMOST as dangerous? (For example, families trekking through the summer desert into SW US; trekking through Arctic conditions into the prairies; in Europe, voyaging across open seas in over-loaded unseaworthy boats).

3. Even if he hadn't said "shithole", his remark was racist and unacceptable. Even if he said "We don't want people from those countries", its saying the same thing - countries that are poor, struggling, suffer from poor leadership (the irony!), and also happen to be predominantly black should not be allowed to send people to the US (or allow them to stay).
