If you need more proof what a fucking idiot Trump is, see this:

JD

"My fellow Americans. I'm aware that some of you will get infected, and have to endure weeks of gasping agony in an overwhelmed ICU. Or you may die alone, like those seniors in the Spanish retirement home, who were abandoned by their terrified caregivers.

But that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. Can you not think of the economy?"

Check the fit of your tinfoil hat, might be screwed on a little tighter this morning
I don’t need to...I haven’t been on the left for a long time... but before you take yours off at night... be honest and tell me that you believe Trump is going to spend four years of eating shit and not have a plan to fight back?

Anyone can pull a plan out their ass. Did he ever have a plan for anything that worked. Remember when his plan was to ignore the coronavirus and pretend it would just disappear in a couple of weeks. That the same guy you're looking to for a plan?

he's bring his only talent/skill to the table

Bankruptcy lol

there is an article I read about how a few hundred million in testing could have done wonders, along with tracking

you know, like the South Koreans did, Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan

our 2 trust fund babies, no, not necessary

we're both 3 months behind the curve

the plans should have been in place in January/Feb at the latest

in the States they were too busy dumping their stocks, the Sock Model was too busy trying to bribe dictators and warlords in Africa for his UN seat

it's time to punt both these idiots forever

Can you post the article? There hasn't even been 10 million total tests to date worldwide. How the heck did S. Korea, Vietnam, Singapore and Taiwan accomplish "a few hundred million in testing..."? I'm not a betting man, but I would be inclined to take the under on a bet that there are a few hundred million testing kits available worldwide. In any event, some food for thought...

lol, that's in dollars spent on testing, lol

a few hundred million in testing

in testing, not tests, lol

the bottomline is our gov'ts are incompetent

they're 2 to 3 months late to the party

simple screening at airports and borders would have helped

everyone here was told it was China's problem

we're far better prepared

they're still not testing in Canada, you have to be part of their select group

even yesterday, on the news, Weds, March 25th, there was a woman who returned from abroad

she got nothing, but a fucking leaflet

telling her to self isolate and a couple other instructions on how to wash her hands, cover her mouth when coughing

today, finally, the Sock Model is invoking the Feds power, which will still be almost unenforceable, basically still the honour system

despite all the incompetence people still aren't dying in droves

so let the irrational emotional paranoia continue

we still won't have adequate testing

cause we're being lead by an incompetent moron

just wait for the shit show of them trying to get money out the door, lol

There is a big gap between what our government should do and what they could do. Sure we should do more tests, but do we have the test kits? I don't know if we can produce the kits here in Canada and I am pretty sure you can buy them from other countries now.
Sure our government can ask everyone to wear masks instead of saying masks don't help in preventing the spread of virus, but where are the masks? Even the basic masks need a specialized machine to make, and the machine needs a supersonic spray nozzle which is only made in Germany. And Yes, Germany has blocked the export of such equipment.
The only thing I would fault our government is that they should have closed the border a lot sooner. That's something within our power.

It is really sad that most of the third world countries are better prepared and have more test kits, masks, medical supplies, ... available for their healthcare and citizens in general, than here in Canada.

Those are low Gross Margin products, normally the demand is also pretty low, so we outsource the production to third world countries.

Usually that's not a problem, if the countries do not close the borders and chanting "America first", "China first", "Canada first", "xxxxx first"......

There is an insane amount of pent-up demand waiting to burst open like a horny perbite with no SP's.

That is the difference between this depression, and others. It's why the market jump whenever anything positive happens.

If cases start to drop, businesses start to re-open and production climbs (or a cure is found), Trump, and Trudeau will be sitting on the biggest stock surge in history.

Speaking like the true right wing corporate shill. Profit for shareholders and bonuses for executives are the only things that matter.
Outsourcing is the problem. For many reasons, this being only one of them.

Canada sent 16 tonnes of medical supplies to China back when they were in the thick of it

could and should

yeah, it should have happened back at the new year, at the very least January 15th

our clowns did nothing till a week or so ago

this was all brought here by travel

they did nothing

they should have been screening, tracking even before they closed the borders

but they were too busy with his usual M.O.

calling everyone a racist who disagreed with his ideas

screening and tracking, then closures when it was warranted

Trudeau and his clowns did nothing till March, middle, yesterday

it was always within his power

he's not a leader, he's a spokesman for the Liberal Party, a name, and now we're going to pay for it for yrs

targeted testing, screening, far less expensive than what it's going to cost now

more effective than trying to get everyone to stay holed up for months too

Vietnam, Vietnam

did/has done a better job

Wrong. This is just the concept of specialization in macroeconomics. Outsourcing increases the total output thus benefits the human race as a whole. The problem is the distribution of wealth. More wealth is withheld by the corporation/shareholders, the general population won't see much of the benefit of globalization/outsourcing. This would improve with the increase of total productivity. With plenty of productivity, it's called Gods kingdom on earth, without enough productivity, it's called communism.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/pol...for-sending-16-tonnes-of-personal-protective/
The goods Canada sent to China included 50,118 face shields, 1,101 masks, 1,820 pairs of goggles, 36,425 medical coveralls, 200,000 nitrile gloves and 3,000 aprons. The supplies were sourced by the Canadian Red Cross as well from as the government of Canada’s supplies.

https://torontosun.com/news/nationa...ies-to-china-lets-hope-they-return-the-favour
On Feb29, China delivered the first batch of test kits and masks to Iran. On Wednesday, it was announced that China is sending one million masks to France.

It's like buying coffee for the next person in line. You do a good deed, because you want to do a good deed, instead of expecting something in return.

Outsourcing is obviously not the problem. People would be bitching about it if times were good. Can't explain everything to people who don't understand basic economics.

 So much wrong with this answer, I will not bother. Pure ideology and propaganda. The results we see in how we deal and how are we equipped to deal with the crisis like this one.
And also more general in the destruction in our middle class and unjustifiable bigger and bigger gap between ridiculously rich minority and the rest.
