Are you all excited for this season and what do you think?

The Jays have made some big moves this off season, just missed the playoffs last season by 1 game and have an exciting young core. Im hoping they add a lefty bat to have some more balance. Maybe had to trade a top prospect or Gurriel Jr. They have more potential young stars arriving mid to late 2022 - 2023 in Gabriel Moreno and Orelvis Martinez, Jordan Groshans.

As it stands in Mid March.....

Rotation
Top 5 - Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios, Hyun Jin Ryu, Alek Manoah, Yusei Kikuchi
Next in line/spot starter - Ross Stripling, Nate Pearson

Bullpen
Closer - Jordan Romano
RHP - Trevor Richards, Adam Cimber, , Trevor Richards, Yimi Garcia, Trent Thornton, Ross Stripling
LHP - Julian Mayweather, Ryan Borocki, Anthony Kay

Lineup
1B - Vlad Guerrero Jr.
2B - Cavan Biggio, Santiago Espinal
SS - Bo Bichette
3B - Matt Chapman
OF - George Springer, Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Randal Grichuk, Josh Palacios
DH - Teoscar Hernandez
C - Danny Jansen, Alejandro Kirk, Reese McGuire

The Jays have a very good rotation, solid bullpen, can hit for lots of power (top 5 in MLB), score lots of runs, young core only getting better and solid farm system.

As an added bonus it's perfect excuse to head east and catch a game, and indulge in my favourite Toronto ladies while I'm there. :)

thx for a very comprehensive report on the Jays!

solid lineup, they seem ready to make some noise this season.

I'd be surprised if they trade Gurriel, his future looks bright.
Be interesting to see how Baggio fares, he's been hampered by injuries, slowing his development.

I hope you'll update this thread as the season progresses!

what are your thoughts on the Grichuk trade?
He was good for Toronto when Springer was out. But with George Springer, Teoscar Hernandez and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. being a great outfield, he was expendable.

They added a left handed bat and speed with Tapia who has a career .280 batting average, with 19 Dingers in 2021. Tapia is faster and younger.

All in all, a great trade me thinks. And remember they also have Biggio who can play outfield if needed, so they are not risking much. This is a strong team and I think Tapia makes then even stronger.

This is going to be a fun season with them being able to play actual home games at Rogers Centre, which is a HUGE bonus this year. Let's hope what we see on paper transcends to the playing field.

Randall Grichuk was always a solid player. Thank him for his contributions and not much memorable despite his big contact at the time. They projected he'd out value his contract but he didn't. He played good defense and his bat won them some games over the years but never generated much trade value. However, the addition Tapia whose not as good defensively, less pop but hits for better contact and has better speed. There is concern his power may not be there as Coors field is more hitter friendly. He's cheaper but Toronto will send a ton of money the next few years to Colorado. Like SSL said, you get a left handed bat. More a contact hitter and older generation type number 2 hitter. As for the 5'6 Adrian Pinto there have been professional writers and me who first was like best case he's a poor mans Jose Altuve. He does project out to be a good contact hitter and a solider defender. Most likely a 2nd baseman.

As much I love Gurriel, I bet he would've brought in a better left handed hitter. He is more a luxury in our line up especially with the Chapman trade and extension. We need Cavan to step up this year.

I know it's only spring training but damn Orelvis Martinez has been impressive.

ESPN released a power rankings as the season is almost upon us. And the Jays are...................

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...ngs-playoff-odds-everything-need-all-30-teams

2. Toronto Blue Jays
Projected record: 96-66 (90.8% playoff odds)

If everything goes right ...
As Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said in spring training, "Last year was the trailer. What you are going to see this year is the movie." With Guerrero and Bo Bichette both finishing in the top five of AL MVP voting, the Jays are unstoppable on offense and the rotation is one of the best in the league -- although the ace isn't Jose Berrios or Kevin Gausman but second-year righty Alek Manoah. Hard-throwing Nate Pearson becomes a big bullpen weapon and the Jays not only make the playoffs this time around -- they go all the way. -- Schoenfield

Weakness that could stop them: For a team as athletic as the Blue Jays, they profile as having one of the weakest outfield defenses in the majors. George Springer was evolving away from being an everyday center fielder even before he joined Toronto, but he figures to be a fixture there on this depth chart. Teoscar Hernandez can mash but he's not likely to challenge for any Gold Gloves in right. In left, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had good numbers a year ago but he's a converted infielder. -- Doolittle

Most likely 2022 award winner: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. didn't get a single MVP vote last year despite leading the AL in OPS (1.002) and leading the majors in home runs (48), which says a lot more about Shohei Ohtani's two-way prowess than it does about Guerrero's performance. The Blue Jays' first baseman will be only 23 this season and will bat in the middle of a loaded lineup while spending at least half his time in a favorable hitting environment. He's reportedly down 22 pounds, too. -- Gonzalez

One (realistic) bold prediction: In 2021, Guerrero tied for first in home runs, ranked third in batting average and fifth in RBIs; this time, he leads the AL in all three to capture the Triple Crown. Alas ... he finishes second to Shohei Ohtani in the MVP voting once again. -- Schoenfield

Opening day not going as expected. What a mess 😔

The offense is going to be fun to watch. The pitching staff will round into form, many aces struggled opening day with the shorter spring training.

The first week of the season has gone pretty much as expected. The hitting is there, the pitching is getting out the gate slow. Can blame some of that on lack of spring training.

Vlad hit 3 home runs off a 98 & 95 mph fastball and what looked like a 87 mph cutter that didn't move. 2 homers off their ace and expected Cy Young award finalist Gerrit Cole.

The pitching has been fine. It’ll come around I think.

I’m more concerned about the loss of Teoscar and Jansen right now.
