I think Conan is a pretty funny and people at the tonight show thought it would work. The ratings didn't turn out great but it's only been 7 months. Why didn't it work out?

NBC simply split the audience. There was a crowd that watched Leno because he was in that time slot and another watched it because they were loyal Leno fans. Once Leno got moved to the 10 slot NBC ended up with half that 5-7 mill audiene watching Leno and the other half being loyal to their habits. Had NBC waited for Leno to retire I think Conan would've seen more success in that time slot IMO. Personally I never watched a single episode of Conan in the new time slot.

A costly mistake by NBC top honco Jeff Zucker which probably costs the said network a loss of about $ 200 Million. NBC used to be the King of the Networks, when Zucker became President years back it went from top to bottom among the 4 major players.

Plus, there's no way on earth Jay Leno will easily give this up. As what shock-jock Howard Stern said; Jay looks at the wall everyday just waiting to go to work. The same with Brett Favre who will be back with Minnesota after training camp is over.

In the case of Conan, he shouldn't feel bad. This is a business and he failed in the ratings game during the last 7 months. Plus, he got paid $ 42 Million to keep quiet till September. :)

Conan O'Brien suffers from Tourette's syndrome...

Jay Leno is long past his "best before date"...

neither deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence with Johnny Carson...
