Since the Earthquake have you lost interest in pooning? Instead of spending whatever you spend on a SP why not donate money when the Canadian or USA dollar can go so far. Your one hour fee to a SP can feed an entire family for a month. I'm sure we can afford to give a little. I will be donating later.

Also guilt has set in for me. How can I not do something when I am one of the lucky and made my way to the States to make more money.

Bigger question is: How many % of what you actually donate will reach the intended recipients?

Do you know how much the average person makes in China? Dont get carried away by the bright lights of Shanghai and Beijing. Massive amount of people make $ 150-200 per month if that in the rural areas where the earthquakes occured.

They cannot afford to donate to the West, a decent donation would be too much of a % of monthly income. Lets say 50 bucks, well to a poor Chinese family that is 1/3 to 1/4 of monthly income.

But 50 bucks is play money to us.

75% of my income does not go in my pocket - its all relative.

What happened in China is horrible, those poor people. The Chinese Government on the other hand, has plenty of cash to help the survivors and rebuild. Yet, they will look to the "west" for aid.

With all due respects . . .

Human tragedy in any country is a sorrowful event. But, does not China (or its international investment arm) own a MORE THAN SIGNIFICANT % of the United States federal government debt paper???

If so, China is hardly a "pauper" state. They may need assistance in the instant logistics of providing relief to their affected citizens. But China is hardly in the position of not being able to afford whatever the real financial cost to address the affected citizens.

Any additional comments from more savvy perb people? I'd welcome informed comments.

I'm not to keen on the Chinese Government considering the way they treat Tibetians. But I have no animosity againt the Chinese people, so I guess when they send me my tax refund this year I'll donate some to help.

Hopefully, acts of kindness to China during this tragic event will soften the Chinese Governments attitude.

Sex is a need too. Just like Food, Water and Shelter, I find myself not able to function normally with out sex. I would donate money no problem if I was doing well myself. But I am not. Maybe next time.

I think the chinese govt has done an amazing job of bringing aid to Sichuan. Much better than FEMA and Bush's response to Katrina. Chengdu is a city of 12 million and well known for the universities, culture, and cuisine. I think the chinese govt has it under control. Taiwan only offered like half a million dollars in cash, plus a planeload of aid. The chinese people are resilient and strong and will survive and thrive in the midst of harsh adversity, like fifty years of communist misrule. I think if an 7.9 earthquake like that happened in Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest, the canadian govt would have a very hard time supplying aid.

Okay so why is this post only dedicated to the Chinese?

This really pisses me off! Why do "white people" have to be so PC? Imagine if I started a thread "To White People of Perb" I would have everyone playing the race card! This is ridiculous.

It was a great Idea to remind people how lucky we are, and that we should spread the cheer, but why are you only asking the chinese to donate?

In fact the Chinese government has respectfully declined all the offers for assistance from various governments of the "west".

Did you not read all the resistence from the posts above? Imagine if he started the thread by asking "White people" as well.

To many, they would have no problem opening their wallet to donate to the US (the only super power of the whole world) for the relief of Katrina, and yet China is a different story. It's understandable that many believe that it is our friendly neighbour and brother at the south but it is the evil enemy empire in the far east. But the responsibility still lies on the Chinese government to convince the west if that's not the case.

Sorry I don't take pills in any form! You can stick to all the leisurely drugs you like!

My point is why does it have to be about being chinese? How about people who enjoy helping and want to help out, I have a challenge for you! I am sure many chinese who are in the position to help, have helped, and will continue to help.

Now that is like saying, who cares about the Aids epedemic in Africa, I'm not from there so why should I care?

Now I "we" as white Canadians are being told we aren't allowed to say Merry Christmas because it offends other cultures in Canada, but it is okay to only ask for help, for China, from the Chinese?

Get over yourself Bubba

We all donate to China every time we go to Wal-mart. Although I only go to that chinese store about once a year. With the massive deficits that idiot in the white house has created the US would have to borrow the money from the chinese to give it back to them. As far as the morality of the chinese government, well the US government 6 years ago invaded a foriegn country. This invasion and occupation brought about the deaths of a million people and drove 4 million from their country. We make the chinese government look good. I think they can and will take care of themselves.

I think it's terrible what has happened, however, when is the last time another country has come running to the aid of Canada? Eastern Canada was just nailed with floods. People lost their lives and homes. Who came running to our aid?
I agree that Canada is known and respected because of our humanitarian ways, but at what cost? We have homelessness, poverty, lack of educational funding and health care funding. Canada needs to think about Canada for once. The Red Cross has already set up collection boxes across the country to help China. I will probably donate something, but I usually support local charities for local causes first.
Take for example these childrens help fund commercials. Adopt a child. How many people have adpted each child, and how much of that money really goes to them? How much goes to administration etc etc etc.

Donation to Earthquake in China

You guy don't have to argue about to donate or not,
as china is a very strong and wealthy country now, to
donate some money means you have the conscious
of doing some good things out of your mind to help
some helpless people and not helping the Chinese Government.
as a whole we should donate in a way that all the money
donated is going to the hand of the people who suffered
from the earthquake, and not thru the organization that
they have a lot of Management handling fee for $100
that 25% is the Management fee.

Precisely. I was about to donate something for the Burma cyclone victims, but decided not to because of the debacle over the aid. Why bother if the aid is either getting blocked or is going into the hands of their dictatorship?

I could be because there government is still mostly based on a socialist system where everbody works for the good of the country and there fellow citizens.
