The past 72 hours have seen more than a few threads turn ugly VERY fast!

I realize that emotions can run hot and that people can post information without fully thinking through the consequences.

Any extended sniping between PERB users or publicly directed at any of the mods will NOT be tolerated. I can't stress that enough. The mods are here to make sure that things run smoothly. Not to censor information or punitively punish anyone.

PERB is for the most part a good spot where a lot of useful information can be shared and people have fun. I'd like to think that everyone can step back for a moment or two....cool off....and hopefully we can get back to normal.


As always feel free to contact me, any of the other mods or Fred Zed directly if you have comments to share.

Since I've closed a few related threads I will leave this one open. Feel free to post thoughts that are designed for a public audience!

The poll thread that was closed does raise one question; what is the PERB policy for re-instating posters who have been banned? This question isn't about the specific posters listed in the poll but any poster in general. Are the bans permanent or can the posters e-mail and ask for a reprieve. I know for a fact a number of TERB posters such as Troops, SubDave, and many others received bans but were allowed to request and received second and even third chances from the moderators. A permanent ban for a first offense seems harsh, repeat offenders are a different story.

I can't speak to the other mods but for myself it really depends on what got the person banned. If it is something minor I personally have no problem un-banning them. If they show a chronic disregard in following good perb behavior then they're toast for good. Some other things that will get accounts banned are multiple handles for one user. When I've banned people it wasn't just because I was feeling particularly cranky.....everyone (except for one) received 2 warnings from me before I pulled the plug.

Thanks for the request and the offer......BC already has its share of Mods and doesn't one more to muck of the way things work. The reason I've decided to step in here is to add a sense of objectivity since I don't know any of the individuals involved in the threads I've edited or shut down.

I agree with daveinvictoria on this

I reiterate that you moderators have a tough job but also think that letting things run their course may make the forums most useful and save yourselves lots of time and headaches.

He's totally right, it's like letting little kids work things out for themselves, they learn more from it than by having mom or dad step in. The worst thing you can do is break it up too early, before any resolution is reached.

Also this goes for drunken red necks and those just turning 19 who get into fights at bars, often it looks like a fight, then they work it out with their manly posturizing and it doesn't end in fisticuffs. (Is that a word? I heard it on The Yellow Submarine and you know those Beatles and their LSD! Whatever.)

Anyway, the thread would resolve itself, then those main parties would retreat to lick their wounds, returning to edit their own posts sans moderator to save immortalizing their own outbursts. It's genius really.

I'm doing this but sometimes for the SAKE of the board. things have to be shut down. it has nothing to do with babysitting..although sometimes it feels like it. but the board has legal concerns to also think of. and most that a Mod can do is not irreversible ..except for total deletion of a post or thread. and most of the time if something disappears ..IT'S NOT GONE..but I find it absolutely amazing that people don't take into consideration what goes on OFF of the board and behind the scenes because of some of the stuff that is posted on here by people purposely trying to ruin someone elses life over OUTRIGHT LIES..and bending the truth into a pretzel..ok I've gone on enough with my rant.. thanks

ps daveinvictoria. you didn't mind it when your stuff was removed from the board did you. please don't judge other threads and or posts when you don't know the full story. thanks

Huh...Davevictoria, you seem angry. I would hate if unresolved issues with me are contributing in any way to making you tense with people like vancouverman, or Grendleaxe. Would it help if you and I worked things out? I'll post my email address here again so you and I can at least get our issues dealt with.

I certainly can't imagine any logical reason to let this fester on, and I only mention this because you have referenced it directly or indirectly many, many times on the boards in the last few weeks, so I can only conclude it would be something you'd want to work on resolving.

And certainly, if you can show me I've come to any erroneous conclusions, I'd welcome a chance to apologise.

Thanks for your perspective. You are very much like Mr. ManVancouver and Mr.Axe in that you sound like someone who knows all and is just a cut above the rest of us in terms of being able to judge things. No offense intended but that it how it keeps coming off sounding. I guess you have to know all the stuff that you say goes on behind the scenes to understand fully so I guess I just will never understand.

I'd ask that you refrain from any slagging directed at other PERB users.

Ok. I've publicly offered my email twice to this guy, asking that he contact me and we clear this up. Enough.

davevictoria evidently does not want to resolve the difficulties he keeps referring to over, and over, and over again? I can only conclude that he prefers the drama and attention it brings, and/or there is nothing to resolve because things did not happen the way he claims, as I have been contending since day one with this. Surprise.

So, either way, him mentioning this 'problem' in the future makes sense only in ways that reflect negatively on this gent rather than myself, and I would like him to think this through before ever bringing it up again.

I think this is as fair and truthful a statement as can be made on the circumstances presented, and hope this is not seen as an attack on davevictoria, but rather a clarification, and an endpoint to my dealings with him.

Fair? I am trying to step back from the board, but need to tie up some of these loose ends as best I can before I can do that with any confidence at all.
