This Is The Perfect*Face

Science! Florence Colgate, an 18-year-old student from Kent, England, has what's been anointed by Lorraine Cosmetics as Britain's Perfect Face. Using measurements of her features, she mathematically almost perfectly fits the formulaic standard of beauty.

1. According to the formula used by the Lorraine Cosmetics contest, the "perfect" face has a distance between the pupils of just under half, or 46 percent, of the width of the whole face from ear to ear. Florence's ratio is 44 percent.

2. The same formula posits that the relative distance between eyes and mouth should be just over a third of the measurement from hairline to chin. Florence's ratio is 32.8 percent.

3. Florence also has the classic marks of beauty which researchers believe are subconscious cues of fertility: large eyes, high cheekbones and full lips.

4. On top of all that, her near-flawless features are almost perfectly symmetrical.

5. Florence beat out 8,000 entrants to the contest

There's no such thing as universal perfection. It's an individual thing, and even then it will never truly exist. And thank goodness, because perfection is boring! Frankly I like people with maybe a scar or a crooked nose or a tattoo they regret getting lol. Imperfections are quirky, and often beautiful. They make us unique and interesting.

Plus, don't we have enough pressure to be "perfect" in every single way? Things like this contest gets into dangerous territory. We're finding ourselves trying harder and harder these days to accept others and ourselves for the natural way we look. But that's how we look! Whether it's the two women's photos here or the "butterfaces" they're all beautiful to someone. But that's not why you should be happy with how you look, it shouldn't have anything to do with anyone else, you should be happy with how you look because that's how you look! Easier said than done for a lot of people but that's the message we should be pushing, not silly things like this.

I love an interesting face with a nose that shows some character.

Sophia Loren comes to mind as a most imperfect face that is sensual and intriguing.

This one is a perfectly pleasant face.

Right. Yet this contest is essentially saying a wide nose is imperfect, but that being the natural way a black person's nose is, kinda makes them straight up racist lol.

Not saying an individual can't have their preferences, but a contest saying a blonde white girl is perfect because of dimensions most black people won't naturally achieve, that's pretty damn racist to me lol.

They are just talking about the perfect face based on the mathematical ratios used in many art classes... Beauty is still in the eye of the beholder, and personally I find her mouth too large, lips too full, and nose slightly different from what I would consider to be astetically "perfect"

Of course she's still absolutely amazing looking :thumb:

Also, lots of asians have small cute noses. Actually, the most "perfect" nose i've ever seen is currently residing on the face of a youngish japanese girl. ;)

Theres nothing about her that's not nice.

He nose is great... But theres a big difference between great and perfect.

Perfect means nothing better in any aspect.
