In a nice wet pussy!
Lee Yoon-hyung, 26, the youngest daughter of Samsung's (the largest computer chip manufacturer in the World) Chairman and one of the richest men in South Korea, commits suicide...

Looks, money and youth...

Evidently, that wasn't enough.

Alas, depression was an integral part of her package.

Tragic!

Abbotsford.
very sad that the pressures can make the young so easily a target for depression and suicide. happens far too often. if they could only see a few years down the road of life, all might be ok then.

problem is that everything in life now comes down to money: so everything else is just worthless, including life.

how is she going to find something meaningful in a life like that?

at least if you're poor you can dream about being rich ...

.....then kill yourself once you're rich???

I don't buy that. Somewhere along the road she made bad choices....the same as fu**ed up poor people.
not that simple, but there have been people who won the lottery and then killed themselves.

the thing is that riches, fame, good looks are no guarentee of happiness.

life is a choice

It is far easier to be happy with money....I have been on both sides of that coin and anyone that says money doesn't make it easier is an idiot. Life boils down to how you look at things - if you always choose to see the negative then you are fucked and rich or poor will not matter

One should not judge without . . .

knowing all of the facts. Having said that and having seen first-hand the pressure of meeting expectations of parents and family, I would guess that "performance" pressure had to have been a contributing cause. Particularly from the within the Japanese and Korean cultures.

Having said that, I'd prefer not to get flamed about stereotyping cultures. I have seen first hand the performance demands from parents in those two particular cultures and it was brutal.

Kids from wealthy parents (often grandparents having left the legacy) from other cultures also have some sad stories. Even here in Vancouver. (Think Army & Navy Cohen family.) Sometimes cash is unkind and carries a potential curse if kids aren't provided some balance in upbringing!!!

I wonder how her father takes this

Often in the super powerful / rich Asian family, the young girls in the family are the real victims of the situation. Unlike the likes of Paris Hilton in the western world , they don't have the freedom to express their individualism . Sometimes they are just too afraid or powerless to do anything against their father's wish. Watch some Korean soup opera, you'll see what I mean.

Indeed, a sad story..

aren't you just contradicting yourself here?

you say that life is easier if you are rich,
but if you are negative it doesn't help to be rich.

so which is it?

and people who are depressed can't just 'snap out of it' or try 'positive thinking' ... if it was that easy, no one would choose to be depressed.

no contradiction

No, I said it was easier if you had the money - there are enough things to overcome when you have money - let alone the worry of putting food on the table, feeding the kids etc.

Money takes away many of the basic survival worries - so, if you have money, you have less things to worry about. That being said, you have a choice on how you look at things - if you want to see the glass half empty, money won't prevent it.

I have dealt with despressed people through the years, friends, family etc. and even when medicated, ultimately, it is a choice they make to dig themselves out of it.

sad story

I rather doubt the unhappiness which would lead to a suicide is about money, not directly at least. More than likely the burden of living up to other people's expectations. (which in many cases, with super achievers like her father, are unrealistic)

just my 2 cents worth

Agreed!

Boo-Hoo... little rich girl can't cut it!

Cry me a river!

People are still dying cuz of disease and lack of food and water... even in that country!

Good point. I've never known anyone who was depressed that didn't want to be relieved of their despair. It's not a choice, it's a biological imbalance that often requires significant medical/psychological intervention. Also, who the hell knows what this young woman has gone through, maybe she was sexually abused for years, or worse, and couldn't get past it no matter how proactive she was in trying to overcome it.

I think there's enough sympathy to go around for all of those groups.

The poor parents. It must really hurt to have your own child throw away their life, and it's gonna hurt for the rest of their long (now miserable) lives. The only escape is suicide itself, and that's nothing to look forward to.
