Thinking about current events ...

When I lived in Toronto from 87 to 92….
First night in the hotel…..car was broken into….
Second night in my apartment….. drunk guy with a bloddy face broke in at 2 am
Third night ….had a baseball bat…1 at the front, 1 at the back door. 1 in my bedroom and 1 in my car
I worked down town. Always had my bat and a ball glove.
Got stopped a few times by the cops…just told themI play baseball after work.

Actually I have a Nazi down the street from me. Because I am from a group that he holds in contempt, he has sent me threats, slashed my tires, shot at my car with an pellet gun! He terrorized the other neighbours, one committed suicide, another had his brake lines cut and crashed. The list is long and goes on. Finally he was brought under control after the RCMP knocked at his door and he shoved the cop down the stairs. After been sent to the looney bin for 6 months, he is back but at least not allowed on the street for the next 18 months. So, yah, I keep a baseball bat at my front door for the little Nazi. He looks harmless but he is so full of hate. You can imagine the problems of living around that sort. But I sure as hell won't run from them or bow to them!

Same with Christians...they were done after the last person witnessing the preaching of Jesus past away . Everyone else ever since are only Neo Christians right ? Or.... would it be a dogma that someone would follow that categorize them ? Food for thought ....

I think you're confusing Nazis with fascists. Apples and oranges, but it did make me think...

His father and mother were full blown Nazis who came here after the war. The father died but I have talked to the mother before the 'troubles'. She would tell me how Hitler was not so bad. They educated their three sons thus. One remained with her, the fellow who created problems. Until he pushed the police he would play Hitler speeches to the discomfort of his neighbour, the people across the street. The father had been in the Hitler Youth, the mother in some sort of young female version. Obviously the son never had membership (as the Nazis were dismantled in 1945) so I guess I would have to call him a Neo-Nazi, not much of a difference in my opinion.

The comparison to First Nations protesting couldn’t be more stark. Nations protesting pipeline going thru their land? Swift RCMP action to clear them out!!! First Nations and non- protesting old growth logging? Millions spent on RCMP to remove them (tho some First Nations support the logging; it’s more complicated than what I can do justice in this thread).

I’m about 95% opposed to nearly everything the trucking/freedom convoy is doing. What I do support is the freedom to protest, PEACEFULLY.And not ruin everyone else’s day by doing it.
Speaking of logging old growth- some anti-logging groups shut down the main roads on the island to protest. Now, if I’m trying to bring my mom to the hospital, or bringing my sick dog to the vet (who’s on a major road), this protest is NOTdoing a lot to get my support! I canimagine the same for citizens of Ottawa (most, I’d say: I’ve seen enough credible reports of convoy people harassing andbullying citizens to make me sick and almost support the heavy-handed approach the police FINALLY took (which was still much less heavy handed than we saw with BLM or anti-pipeline, which had a far greater cause and history to support!)
In the end, I’d fully agree the govts are fkn failing. Goddammit JT, get out there and confront these folks! Prove you’re not a coward and tell them what needs to be done! Can’t believe I’ve supported JT on the past; his inaction and hiding (for lack of better term) thru this has been pathetic.
In BC, the govt needs to step up too. Abolish ALL old growth logging BUT support the logging industry to transition to 2nd growth, prevent any logs from going overseas to process, and support loggers with jobs/aid. The govt is doing a FINE job in feeding the far right extremists by allowing blue collar jobs to disappear without anything to replace (which is also worthy of another thread entirely).

Sadly, new ships continue to sail back. There’s definitely a slice of society that feeds off of racism. I don’t think that slice will ever totally disappear, we can only hope to minimize and outcast it and never give it any air to grow beyond the fringe people it seems to attract…
