Is it just me, there are fewer downtown condo based providers than like ten years ago.

Theories:

1.) Industry shifting from physical service to online such as OnlyFans, Cam sites, etc..

2.) High rent in downtown forcing providers to move out of downtown

3.) A lot of downtown providers got rich from (real estate, stocks, crypto) and retired

What do you think? Any other theories?

I think it's just downtown but condos in general. I think it's about the danger of being ousted by your neighbour and ultimately, the whole building. I doubt anyone would like it if there are a lot of strangers entering and exiting the unit next door, especially at night. That's one of the reasons why SPs and agencies almost always say no knocking. No one wants to actually live next door to a brothel although it may sound very enticing and convenient for some of us.

I always yearned for the chance to select one of the starlets on the downtown high track who would then take me to her high-rise condo down there somewhere... and while it happened a time or two... and while it was literally fun just to have cause to go up into one of those high-rises... the numbers of the long-ago girls who were housed in the high-rise condos weren't enough to suit me.

While I agree that neighbors effectively 'forcing' working girls out would be one reason for the change, another would be so many outsiders having moved to Vancouver compared to times before 1997 (re: Hong Kong), that many of them clustered in the downtown high-rises (because it is SO much like HK life anyway) and those who had previously resided there slowly (or quickly) sought other housing.

NOT only that, but back in the day, the high-rise downtown condo was convenient to their work, and now they can work online and live just about anywhere in the metro area. Since they need not be central any longer to be 'noticed' by clientele, suddenly the priorities are the ease with which they can host their clients (re: parking, comfort, invisibility, etc.). That further suggests moving out of the core and blending-in somewhere else.

@the Meat Market!!!lol
working downtown your clientele are in hotels/ travelers - not much of those while the pandemic restrictions are on ; bar staff. restaurant staff - not much of those when the lockdown was on or even now with the restrictions; people working from office towers - many people are working from home....

i would say it's because the traditional customers of downtown are not there so sp's moved to where there is more business.

love susie

I stepped into the elevator one time to ride up to my appointment. An Asian girl also gets in who I assume was lived in the building. She was staring at me from the side as if she knew I didn’t belong there or knew what was up. I get off at the floor and she steps off too.
She’s walking in the same direction as me and unlocks the door adjacent to the apt I was looking for. Just as I get to the door the SP inside opens standing there almost nude. The Asian neighbor still standing there at her door with a look of disgust at what I suspect she had seen many times before. I felt somewhat embarrassed but quickly got over it once inside and taking care of the business at hand.

Lots of reasons for not being in a downtown condo being told by someone who lives there.

First, traffic is congested most of the time. It can take up to an hour to get from one end to the other during busy times. Someone travelling from out of downtown will experience longer delays during peak hours.

Parking has become increasingly more expensive and difficult as the city is focused on eradicating automobiles from downtown.

Alternatively, Burnaby and Richmond are more central and easier to access, especially Burnaby.

Another reason is price. During the 2000s a decent condo could be had for the low $200s.

Any half decent 2 bedroom place is going to be a million or more. Rents have also increased as a result and cut into margins.

In addition, when owners spend 7 figures on a condo, they become increasingly vigilant with what goes on in the building.
Expensive, inconvenient for most, and because there are more people on streets walking and 10,000 hidden cameras, it makes many people feel uneasy.

Running a shop out of downtown doesn’t make good business sense.

Nosey neighbours, with nothing better to do than watch security cameras at the lobby and hallways.

I find that there was more of an even geographic spread. I live in east van and love it when I have a regular close to me.

Now it seems like lots of the new and interesting talent have moved out to New West and the Tricities.

My incall is downtown now, but a lot of my clients have told me they wish I was back in my old location because parking downtown is such hell.
(I quite like getting the business men during their lunch breaks sometimes though, so I'm pretty pleased with where I'm at!)

How is the sound-proofing in the downtown condos? It can be a turn-off when ladies ask you to be so quiet to avoid neighbors hearing that it takes away from the experience.

Geez I wish I would win one of those massive lottos. Buy a whole floor of a condo so you ladies can have a safe place to work for a low rate and no tight ass neighbours poking around.
