Do not underestimate the flexibility and determination of a democratic state, especially one as powerful as the USA. For an enlightening study of three generals, one Greek and two American (Sherman and Patton), and why they were able to lead their troops to complete victory, I would recommend Victor David Hanson's valuable book entitled "The Soul of Battle".

Thanks for the citation, Alin. I felt like a boy again, especially reading and studying the various ranks in each discipline like I used to in bygone days. I recall how I used to stand at alert on my bed when I heard the Star Spangled Banner being played on radio. And the statistics on the number of military personnel in active service over the years since 1940 was fascinating.

There are several books and papers that discuss the difference between the philosophy of China and the USA. China is a Center or Insular nation. That's why China stays Chinese and doesn't become multicultural. The USA absorbs and actively seeks to influence other nations. That's why the USA is multicultural and always involved in the affairs of other nations.

Universal Geography by Conrad Malte-Brun isn't the best of the books on this subject - but my mind isn't working this morning and I'll have to look up the others.

China existed during the Roman Empire and will exist long after the American Empire.
Which Chinese empire are you referring to? I believe there have been several over the centuries.

I think the rule is...where China has been able to exert their "influence", they have. They are insular now, and always vote against intervention because they feel they are a likely candidate to receive that. Once they have clear military superiority, their behavior will change and they will be far less insular.

My guess is the US will become bankrupt trying to keep up the China's military expenditures. The tables will turn sometime in the next 50 years, we'll be stealing their secrets and technologies.

Berlin, Germany
the writing has been on the wall for decades the usa is done,
they will continue in there death throws for decades how ever,

i think the question is \
how far will they drag canada down with them and perhaps how low will they go

and perhaps who will take the stage as world leader, or dominate the world economiclly politically and socially like the usa has done for my life time anyway

canada perhaps china,????
Canada is so connected with the USA that when the bowl is fushed, Canada will have at least one more victory lap before going under. Here in Germany we are being dragged down by a smaller country Greece. We can not even cut them loose. Knowing we have Spain, and Italy behind them. Hold on too your cash we are all going down together. See you in the sewer.

The fed see's you as a potential terrorist because you have food storage or can provide for yourself. Yet the feds being able to "allocate" resources for times of emergency is good. In order for them to allocate however they have to confiscate. Wonderful country wouldn't you say?

Keep in mind that laws like that are really about control. If you have food storage or can take care of yourself, you can not be easily controlled, hence you are a threat. The logic is simple, once you understand the premise.
