I'm a big fan of the John Carpenter version and am very excited about this prequel/remake.

You are a fan of the original and you are salivating for this crapulence?......if Kurt Russell saw this post he would kick your ass and Chuck Norris would give him a thumbs up......hollywood is so fucked that they are trashing good films and remaking them because they are out of ideas.....next thing you know they are going to remake Mad Max/The Road Warrior....though I have no fucking clue how it could be done....but it will most likely.

Re-make of The Thing.....I would rather BURN my hard earned money than see this utter shite.

Well in its defense the Thing is not a remake, it is about the Norwegian scientists team that first found the Thing.

But it sounds bad, same guy who wrote the remake for Nightmare on Elm Street did the script for the Thing.

I would see this for only 1 reason... Mary Elizabeth Winstead...

and maybe to see how they tie it into the beginning of the original...

Ides of March was okay... Strong performances from Gosling, Hoffman, and Giamatti, but the story is muddled and Clooneys direction is not as good as Good Night and Good Luck.

Go see Moneyball or Drive if you haven't already.

I had not seen that Avengers trailer yet. Thanks for posting it! I don't want to get too excited but with Joss Whedon at the helm, it's hard for me not to. :D

This looks good too.
I saw that the night before I posted this thread. Quite liked it.

First of all, I like Mary Elizabeth Winstead a lot! And there are a couple of other actors that I noted in the trailers whose work I've enjoyed. Second of all, from the trailers, I felt like it looked like it was going to be fairly faithful to the tone of the Carpenter film. Technically, it's a prequel. But I was prepared for it to tread a lot of the same ground thematically. But it's been about 30 years since the Carpenter version and I think that's enough time since that version for a remake. It's not like they were rebooting Spider-Man only a few years after the last version. :D Finally, with the advances in special effects since 1982, I was really looking forward to seeing the creature designs and effects. Always been a horror movie fan and that's a big part of the fun for me.

Anyway, I watched it last week and enjoyed it for the most part. I think they could have spent more time on the "who goes there?" paranoia since that was some of the most effective stuff in the movie. Of course it's nowhere near as strong as the Carpenter version but it was still entertaining on it's own merits.

if Kurt Russell saw this post he would kick your ass and Chuck Norris would give him a thumbs up
You're not still pissed at me cuz I haven't watched Ishtar, are you? :p :D

There has been talk about this for years. At first, it was supposed to be a sequel but with Max being recast. Last I heard, the talk does seem to be a reboot. But, if I've heard correctly, George Miller is involved, so that's a positive as far as I'm concerned. Again, the most recent info I heard is Tom Hardy will be Max. You might remember Tom Hardy from Inception and he will also be Bane in the upcoming Dark Knight Rises. Charlize Theron might also be in the cast but I'm not positive about that.

Re-make of The Thing.....I would rather BURN my hard earned money than see this utter shite.
Obviously you didn't see the potential in this that I did. I'll betcha it's better than Ishtar :p

Yeah, I got a real kick out of the end for that reason but thought they could've done a little more with that.

Go see Moneyball or Drive if you haven't already.
I haven't seen Moneyball but I thought Drive was GREAT!

Prequel ?

none of the remakes of the thing I would say are prequels or sequels .. In the 1950's one they discover and alien and a space ship ... The ship is destroyed the alien does not morph in to any thing more then a 7 foot guy and is killed ..... in the John Carpenter one Yes the alien is in the form of a dog and running from searchers But Kurt Russel does find the space ship .. burnt ... In this one it is back to the original story . with John Carpenter like effects for the alien .. but done with CGI. Carpenters were all anachronistic , puppets and makeup.

I took it for granted that you watched Ishtar.....I figured you to be an honest straight up kind of guy.....I seriously figured you would have taken your medicine and watched that movie.....I guess you are just a cinematic coward......so thusly I must use harsher methods.

Man Mountain I am calling you out....I hereby TRIPLE DOG DARE YOU....to watch Ishtar.
