Carman Fox

the social network

Inception is currently my fav film of 2010 but The Social Network may make me rethink (or redream) my choice. Just a brillant film on the creation of and destruction of those who created facebook (or thought they had a hand in it). Jesse Eisenberg plays Mark Zuckerberg and Andrew Garfield plays Eduardo Saverin, the two co-founders/co-creators of facebook. It's Eisenberg's breakout role and, at least, you get to see Garfield in a really meaty role before you see him as the new Spiderman (although he is in the British indie film, Never Let Me Go). It has a good fly on the wall feel to it (like a pseudo documentary that you want to watch). Highly recommend this film. Shocked that Fight Club director David Fincher did this film and the screenplay was done by Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men, An American President, TV's West Wing).

and the girl that plays Zuckerberg's g/f at the beginning of the film [Rooney Mara] .. she will be the lead in the Americanized version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

This talented actress is definitely going places. She beat Scarlett Joe and Twilight's Kristin Stewart for the lead role. I guess good things do happen to good people. Rooney does have the heart of gold. She founded and oversees Faces of Kibera. It's a small foundation based in NYC that cares for the orphans of Kibera, which is the second biggest slum in Africa. Imagine more than one million people living in a place the size of Central Park. I just hope Rooney makes it to the A-list one of these days so she can make a bigger difference in this world. :) :)

Finally saw this movie.....WOW!
Best movie I have been to in awhile.
2 hours felt like 45 minutes.
Kinda like a 2 hour session.

I really liked the Social Network. Very good acting. Interesting non-fiction depiction of changes in networking that the new generation will simply take for granted.

I also liked Inception, but it reminded me a lot of the Matrix (meta-physics....what IS reality), and it was a bit bizarre. You have to pay attention and not miss any parts, or it won't make any sense. I found I had to re-watch some parts to get the gist. Yes, Hunka....I get the gist EVENTUALLY. haha

i 100% agree with the op that "inception" is the best movie of 2010.

i did enjoy the "social network" as well. but i guess it's b/c i'm a bit of an aaron sorkin slut. i love everything he writes. but i do think eisenberg did a great job as zuckerberg.

side note... anyone catch michael cera on conan last nite? second guest was julie bowen. in the middle of the interview, she leans over to cera and says, "u were sooo.... sooo good in the "social network." rofl!!!

Social Network is a solid favorite in the upcoming Oscars in Feb 2011. I hope its bags the much coveted Best Picture award. Time to have something fresh from the younger Y & Z generation that changed the world of communication. Remember 500 Million friends. :) :)

Kudos to 26-year Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg for being named Time Magazine's " Person of the Year " . He beat Wikileaks' Julian Assange for it. Well, he has 500 Million friends and soon to be ONE Billion. What's next? The Oscars for " Social Network " in Feb 2011. :) :)

Scott Pilgrim was my favorite movie of the year but it will get no Oscar love. It should at least win an award of editing.

Social Network was great all around and top marks for the writing especially. Just rented the Blu Ray this past weekend.

Inception was the best movie but REALLY needs to be seen and experienced on a huge screen with great sound. IMAX or Metrotown in stadium style seating.

My 46" and Sound Surround just didn't cut it IMHO.

The Fighter is an amazing movie. Christian Bale does a complete 180 from what we've seen as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

The Fighter did get the Best Supporting Actor ( Bale ) and Actress ( Leo ) Awards at the Golden Globes this evening. One of those movies where the supporting actor gets more BUZZ than the lead actor. Btw, " Irish " Micky Ward whose life was portrayed in the said movie will be at the River Rock this coming March 12th as guest for a boxing event being held in that property. Good chance to meet & greet the " Fighter ".

Going back to the Golden Globes, the Social Network did have a BIG NIGHT running away with 4 awards which included Best Picture. :) :)

i like the kings speach even more than the social network.
Haven't seen The Social Network yet; but I can vouch that The King's Speech was a great film.

Likewise, but backwards. The social Network is interesting from the point of view of watching a Bill Gates rise to fortune. Clever mind, but he was completely depicted as socially inept, even as a sociopath.

I will have to check out the King's Speech. I am not familiar at all. Requires a google.

I would also recommend the Swedish subtitled version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy. I was captivated and ended up watching it as close to back-to-back as I could.

Haven't seen The Social Network yet; but I can vouch that The King's Speech was a great film.

Just some weeks back before Dictator Mubarak was brought down in Egypt, it seemed that both Social Network and Kings Speech had a 50/50 chance of bagging the much coveted Oscar top prize. Social Network was awarded best picture during the Golden Globes and Kings Speech got the nod of the Screen Actors Guild. These days the Oscars is about campaigning and getting the nod of the people. What better way to get an indirect boost from Google Executive and the de facto leader of Egypt's Revolution Wael Ghonim who credits Facebook for starting the revolution on the internet. Talk about making a difference and you still have Tunisia, Libya, and Bahrain in the works. :) :)

Plus, when the stars do their campaigning, where do they do it ? Facebook. :)
