Hockey Wives

W Network has revealed the full roster for its docu-series "Hockey Wives," which follows the spouses of NHL stars and is set to premiere in March. They include Maripier Morin, a Montreal TV host and girlfriend of Canadiens winger Brandon Prust. Also in the cast is fashion designer Tiffany Parros, who is married to recently retired Montreal forward George Parros.

They join the previously announced Nicole Brown, wife of Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown, and actress Noureen DeWulf, wife of Vancouver Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller.

Other newly announced cast members include model Martine Forget, who is engaged to Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier. Viewers will also see choreographer Brijet Whitney, who married to recently retired all-star Ray Whitney.

The cast is rounded out by social activist Kodette LaBarbera, wife of Anaheim Ducks goalie Jason LaBarbera, and realtor Wendy Tippett, wife of Arizona Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett.

Also in the lineup is Emilie Blum, a former intelligence specialist for the U.S. military and wife of Minnesota Wild defenceman Jonathon Blum; and athlete and communications expert Jenny Scrivens, wife of Edmonton Oilers goalie Ben Scrivens.

The eight-part show will premiere March 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

A statement says the show features the glamorous lives of NHL's wives and girlfriends (a.k.a. WAGs) and how "the many challenges and crises all relationships face are amplified when lives are lived on the front page of the sports section."

It all unfolds over the course of an NHL season.

Hacktivists and gamers are becoming big users of net attacks that knock sites offline by bombarding them with data, suggests a report. Compiled by Arbor Networks, the report looks at 10 years of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.

The ease with which they could be staged had made them a favourite for groups with a grudge, said Arbor. Also, it said, insecure home routers were being enrolled into large groups of devices that mounted the attacks.

In the early days of DDoS, cybercrime gangs had used them to extort cash from websites run by betting and gambling firms that could not afford to be knocked offline, said Darren Anstee, a senior analyst at Arbor. Now, he said, attacks were being mounted by different groups and had grown considerably in size.

In 2011, the biggest attacks had flung about 100 gigabits per second (Gbps) of data at targets, found the report. In 2014 that peak had hit 400Gbps and in the same year there had been four times as many attacks over 100Gbps than in the previous 12 months.

"There's been a massive jump in the number of very large attacks going on out there," said Mr Anstee. "In 2014 we saw more volumetric attacks, with attackers trying to knock people offline by saturating their access to the internet." Almost 40% of the organisations Arbor contacted for its report said they were being hit by more than 21 attacks per month, said the report.

ICBC places holds on 55,000 people for unpaid fares, child support

ICBC says quite a few British Columbians will have to pay up, before they can renew their car insurance.

The public insurer says 55,500 have refuse-to-issue holds on their accounts, meaning they won’t be able to renew their insurance or driver’s licence until they pay certain debts.

The list includes:
  • 25,000 people who owe money for tolls on the Port Mann Bridge
  • 17,000 who haven’t paid their Golden Ears Bridge tolls
  • 9,300 who have missed child support payments.
  • 4,100 who owe money to Translink for unpaid transit tickets

ICBC says it doesn’t send you a notice if you have a hold, but the agency holding the debt should have let you know. Staff with TI Corporation, which runs the Port Mann, says drivers who owe more than $25 on their TReO account and are 90 days overdue will have their files sent to ICBC.
