Matt 'Megatoad' Stonie Sets Bacon Eating World Record

Matt 'Megatoad' Stonie, one of Major League Eating's top two eaters in the world, just set the bacon-eating record by housing 182 slices in five minutes.

That's a lot of pig; Stonie estimates that he ate more than six pounds of cooked bacon, which sports more than 28,000 milligrams of sodium, according to Smithfield, which sponsored the event in Daytona, Florida.

"The bacon was cooked just the way I like it -- a little crispy because I don't like having to chew it," Stonie told HuffPost Weird News after the feat. "I don't feel that bad. I'm used to 10 or 12 minute contests, where I'm eating 10 or 15 pounds of food. I came into this prepared."

Just as bacon hits its prime on the world stage, so has its champion. Stonie told HuffPost that he'll never lose his craving for the breakfast behemoth. Eating competitively is his job, and when he's stuffing his face on stage, he doesn't taste food the same.

"I feel the texture, I taste the saltiness, and I focus on getting it all down," he said. "But I love bacon, it goes with everything."

He added that he's picky about how his pork product is prepared: "It needs to be cooked perfectly. It can't be too crispy and if it's not warm when I get it, the fat coagulates into lard."

His breakfast would feed 10 kids for a week in Africa.....Or 5 kids that don't have enough to eat for a week in Canada.
As a producer , that is used to raising food for a nation, for enough money to almost starve himself....I find myself SMH "Shaking my head"..at the waste.
People should be allowed to do what they want with the products they buy ....But Holy Shit!!

I don't understand people who do competitive eating either.

But bacon seems to be a North American craze - people who love bacon, REALLY love their bacon.

I love bacon but only really nice bacon that is a bit more expensive, less chemicals in it for preservative and from a local butcher shop who smokes their own. The stuff you get from Save On etc can sit in your fridge for 2 months or so while the stuff from my butcher will start to go bad after about a week.

Eating more than three slices at a setting is well, piggish IMHO :D

You're a connoisseur of bacon, just as you are of women, cars, booze and all the finer things in life.

Just in from a caper which turned out funny, and was thinking that I'm enjoying the lounge way more than reading and writing reviews right now. Not to hijack the thread, but I bought a can of Arroyo-D green thai curry sauce and added it and a few veggies to a frypan full of sautéed chicken legs and things and simmered it for a couple of hours. I gotta track down where I bought that. What a bonanza of flavours came out of that can! If you like that kind of thing

Like you have anything to worry about Miss "T"

So here's a little trivia on Bacon....The U.S. uses higher levels of fish oil to bind together their hog feed pellets and it also has a high percentage of corn.
Canada uses fish oil as well but it's at a very low percentage, our binder is usually vegetable oil with a high percentage of wheat base...It is also illegal to use growth stimulants here.
If you ever have the chance to eat and compare the two together, and you keep the fish oil in mind,....You will actually taste ,and smell, the fishy flavour...Particularily in bacon thats not crispy.
