His agent is negotiating with Nonis right now. He made $2 million last year, so he could fit in under the cap.
Guerin's off the market. Signed a 2 yr deal worth $9 million....& to play for the Isles? Guess its all about the money isn't it?

As for the cap room on the Nucks, I'm no expert, but shouldn't they have at least 6 mill in cap space from the new cap limit of $50Mil alone? If that's the case, there's no excuse for not signing an impact player or two. Nonuts is just being a cheapass

Yep...its all about the money. $9 mil for a 36 yo...sounds like a lot. As for Nonis being a cheapass, I think you have to talk to the Aqulinis about that..thats their call and their money. I understand they want to stay $2 mill under the cap to allow for injuries etc. over the season.

Bill Guerin for $4.5 mill/yr? THATS INSANE. Isn't this the same league that wanted salary caps and had locked out for an entire year or am i imagining things? I wonder how long its going to take for the next lockout.

Somewhere Out There
Islanders are desperate - that's is the only reason they would sign Guerin for that price.

Next year is the time the Canucks will be able to move - I think Naslund AND Morrison's contracts are up. If either resign it would be for less money. Then... all eyes on Dany Heatley? (who lives in Kelowna in the off season BTW). And who thinks Brian Burke may try to reunite Nazzy and Bert? I think it was a mistake on Anaheim's part for signing Bert to a contract of what $4 mill a year or so? Detroit was only offering $1.5 mill.

However I do agree that the Canucks should get at least one more top 6 forward who can score. They also need a couple new defencemen and likely they hope Hansen and Bourdoin can step into the lineup full time. I guess they think Kesler can finally start scoring.

if burke wants nazzy and morrison to reunite the westcoast express
he can have them ...

naslund doesn't have the balls to play like a teemu and was infected
with buttoozi's bad attitude ... morrison just isn't effective enough
come playoffs ... buttoozi himself still has the attitude and is only
effective the one place he doesn't want to go ...

if the nucks are smart they ride it out another season and leave
carter alone ... they should be building a team that Luongo wants
to back-up and go from there ... he silenced all doubters and can
take it easier this season ...

i have no expectations from this team this season except to build
it right ... don't make stupid decisions, don't sign useless twits to
long term contracts and keep luongo happy ...

Canucks are status quo

The 2007/08 Canuck roster is pretty much the same as last year except for a few changes that will occur on the 4th and maybe third line. Morrison will start the season healthy, and it is the final year of his contract, so let's hope he plays better this year (he was starting to look a little better at the end of last season). Naslund is an unknown. I bet this is his final year before he retires, so he really has nothing to play for except pride - we will see if he has it in him. We should see Hansen, Rypien, and some of the other prospects in the lineup this year too, so hopefully at least one of them will show some flash (I liked how Hansen played in the playoffs, so some added confidence might turn him into a good player). I suspect the Canucks will grind along again for part of the year until Nonuts can make a trade for the future. He will keep cap space available and will be looking for someone to fill the Naslund void after the upcoming season. Who we get will depend on how other teams are doing. Let's just hope that injuries are kept to a minimum. Also, remember Bieksa will be looking for a big contract next year, so I suspect Ohlund might be on his way out through a trade during the season. This coming year will pretty much be the same as last year. As long as the Canucks stay in the mix for the first half, I can see a big trade happening later in the season to get the team ready for the playoffs and for the following season. There is no use overpaying for a free agent bum when you can wheel and deal for the players you want later in the season.
