I want to know what's happening as the hurricane hits Mexico, and all the media can talk about is how it's going to affect Florida. I have friends and interests in Cancun and I am very concerned about lives, property and historical sites there.

The American media focusing on Florida is understandable. But right now I'm listening to CTV Newsnet and Mexico only gets a brief mention in favor of a 2-minute story on preparations in Florida.

WHO FUCKING CARES ABOUT FLORIDA YOU FUCKING CTV ASSHATS, THE STORM ISN'T EVEN THERE YET!!!

Are you a total fucking asshat? I think his anger lies in the fact that, quote:

Get over yourself already. The only person you're impressing with your self-proclaimed deep wit is yourself.

wolverine...probably best to use the internet for current news. Google news is usually the best, I've found.

i have an theory individual media are somewhat smart but mass media is massively stupid, media nowadays is largely a joke, i like a lot of people watched the coverage of hurricane katrina for the first few days with interests but then the media kept on repeating the same stuff over and over and over again and the faces changed among the news anchors but it was the exact same story with the same images being replayed constantly

Wolverine,

It is not for Cancun per se, but this Playa del Carmen FORUM has some valid information regarding Wilma's effect on the region, given by people who live or vacation there.

It is also a very good resource for tourism related questions.

First let me say, I hope your friends are alright. It must be very disturbing knowing that they are in harms way but you have no information on their well being or even the general conditions in the area.

I am a Fox News watcher. They had a reporter on site in Mexico. They are showing the track of the storm. They had some film (oops video) from the area, not good quality but pictures none the less.

On Foxnews web site the headline says right now " Wilma Holds in Mexico "

Now get this....the picture on the front page of their web site is from Cuba. Another country being hard hit.

Here is the link - http://foxnews.com There is a detailed story on Cacun if you click on the headline

I guess Fix news really is "fair and balanced"

I'm amazed that some people still have internet access down there.

And yes, I know that the internet is a superior source for updates over our national TV news. It's just that when something like this happens, live broadcast provides a better appreciation of what's going down. Global Edmonton news showed some footage from the Yucatan this morning, and the power of the storm is totally bugfuck crazy.

Verdict for this morning and past weekend:
- Global showed quite a bit of footage of damage in Cancun
- CBC kinda breezed through it
- CTV is now all-Florida, all the time; zilch on Mexico
