I was listening to CBC and they ran a small advert for Terra Cafe in Vancouver (never heard of it) and their fundraiser for some chef training school. They are selling macrons en masse.

I have been bumping into these scrumptious morsels everywhere and read that they are finicky to make.

The pastry chef has over 15 years of making them and apparently he is one of the best!

He thinks this wet spring needs some colour....I think my waistline needs to avoid them as they look like More!

Twenty years ago I would have determined to learn to make them myself, but alas, today I would just eat them all and...groan...have trouble with the button on my trousers!

I suppose eating real food first and saving these for dessert would be the thing to do eh?

Ooooooooh this thread is making my teeth hurt. These look like something completly different to what I've known macaroons to be (basically chocolate and coconut)

^Yeah, me too! those coconut macaroons, we call 'em!

These are meringue: sugar, egg white and powdered almonds which is the basis for a macaroon too, and then I think coconut is an addition.

The stuff they put in the middle is killer...ganache...cream and butter and all things bad for little old ladies

Thanks alot. Completly detoured from the bananas and clementines in the grocery store today and got some coconut macaroons, ate the box in class. I'm sending you the bill for my inevitable root canal.
