Wow !!! Just watched the first ep of HBO's new series "The Deuce". Really well done. Its like you stepped thru a time machine to New York in 1971. The series will eventually evolve into the newborn porn industry that takes place at that time, but the first ep does not yet touch on that topic.

The acting and writing is fantastic so far. James Franco plays twin brothers. They purposely have one of the twin brothers get a scar on his forehead very early in the first ep so that you can tell them apart in the different story lines. It looks like the scar may eventually disappear but by then I assume you will be knowledgeable enough about the different story lines to be able to tell them apart.

I have downloaded (thank God for bit torrents) the 2nd ep already and will find time to watch it later today. Can't wait

If you have not guessed already, I highly recommend!

Interesting to see the NYPD, the SW, pimps and all the other cast interacting. IMO brings a real feeling of the streets and the different types you run across.

I didn't realize Franco was this talented.

In one scene in ep1 Vince (one of Franco's characters) is walking down the street and says hello to someone he clearly knows ; the camera swings to a hooker on her knees giving a blowjob to a guy standing in a phone booth; she pulls the guys cock out of her mouth, says "Hello Vince" back, and then promptly stuffs the guys cock back in her mouth and goes back to business. Those were the day lol.

it was the working girls transitioning from the hustle of the streets and into the massage parlor.
be interesting how that whole scenario unfolds since the pimps are now paying 'rent' to Vinny.
what an awesome series. let's hope it doesn't get the Vinyl treatment. was disappointed that series got axed.

Yes, I really enjoyed the very short lived Vinyl series as well. It helped that I think the actor Juno Temple is so very hot! I suspect it was an expensive series considering some of the talent involved.

I certainly hope The Deuce lasts longer. Perhaps it helps to keep costs contained for this series that 2 of the major characters are portrayed by the same actor

Good News !!! HBO has renewed the series for another season.

Bad News!!! I watched ep 8 of season 1 today and that is the a last ep for this season ;-(
