Transsexuals OK @ladies' tourney

LONDON - Transsexual golfers will be allowed to play in this year's women's British Open due to a policy change made by the Ladies Golf Union.

The move, announced Wednesday, comes 11 months after Danish-born Mianne Bagger became the first male-born golfer to play in a professional women's tournament.

Bagger, who had a sex-change operation in 1995, is playing this season on the Ladies European Tour & expected to enter the women's British Open.

It seems to take at least a generation to make this kind of change . In 1976 Rene Richards (formerly Christine Jorgensen) was banned from playing tennis in the U.S. Open. Now, even the IOC (not the most progressive thinkers) has ok'ed transsexuals in the Olympics.
