I love Chop! I go there at least twice a month now. It's my replacement for the Keg if I'm looking for a decent steak during the week.

Of course, if I want a great steak, you can't beat Gotham or Hy's, or even Mortons....:)

Morton's (the Vancouver location) is closed.

congee noodle house is 1/2 a block west of main on broadway north side of the street

parking in the back,

food is very good but noodle house format so the ambiance not quite the same as a kirin or sun sui wa
nothing wrong with the food though, service is good and food comes quickly

The Coast restaurant moved to a new location at Alberni street. It has a very contemporary decoration and excellent seafood selection. Halibut and sablefish were fantastic. The only thing I didn't like was all waitress were wearing this ugly dress. It looked awful when my waitress had really red hair with pale complexion. They need a new fashion director.

Cibo Trattoria

Kudos to Cibo Trattoria for being named Canada's best new restaurant by the Canadian Press. This Italian resto at the Moda Hotel along Seymour brings additional recognition to Vancouver as a world-class dining destination. Been there once and to wine bar UVA twice, and the pasta is just excellent. Never expected it to catch the attention of food critics that fast. Cibo and UVA's sommelier Sebastien Goff is the best in the city. Plus, it's just walking distance to the Vancouver incall location of one of BC's best agencies as well. :)

Totally agree with big dog. Went there Saturday after reading the magazine on Air Canada. as being the best new restaurant in Canada. Awesome food and service. Pricing was reasonable for a high end restaurant. The decor was also modern and classy.

My two cents...

Victoria's Best: Brasserie L'Ecole

Besides Vancouver, Victoria also has it own set of world-class culinary delights. Brasserie L'Ecole's country French cuisine is definitely on a league of it's own in the city. However, the recent first-come first-serve reservation policy of this 13 table resto makes it even harder to get a table now. Reminds me of Rao's which is NY's toughest reservation. Well, you could always visit your favorite agency while waiting, relax a bit, and come back afterwards. They did add another high-end location. :)

Another favorite of mine in Vic is Zambri's. You wouldn't expect to find this hidden treasure near London Drugs. Once inside, the Italian ambiance is just marvelous. Pretty romantic as well, good place to bring a date. Or a good place to get to know your female companion better. :)

I have been to Cibo when they used to have duck neck meat for appetizer which was too weird for me. It is not a traditional Italian restaurant if you are looking for a classic Italian food.

The roast duck they served at Cibo Trattoria with chestnuts, winter leaves, and pomegranates in truly authentic Tuscan style is just fantastic. Like what they say in Italy, there is no such thing as Italian Food as every region has their own way of preparing it. Even the pizza in Naples is different from the ones in Florence.

What I like about Cibo is that they blended some of the different classic regional specialities in their menu which resulted in the said resto being different and that probably brought them the award as Canada's Best New Restaurant. :)

I go there every 6 months for my companies performance review. I hate it. Overpriced, not that great food, but at least the view saves the place. Not to mention the last two times I was there the wait staff were almost rude to me and my party....

Im surprised no one mentioned Joe Forte's for seafood
Sanafir: Super sexy atmosphere, especially if you get the beds upstairs. Excellent food. Very attentive and friendly service.
I've been there several times and prefer it week days as weekends can be a little too busy.
On Granville Street beside Dare to Wear near Nelson.

I'm a long time fan of Joe Fortes (best raw oysters). Love the service and atmosphere.

Blue Water is generally referred to as the best restaurant in Vancouver and the food is excellent but something about the atmosphere seems a little cool to me. I've been a few times and go back for the food but not the atmosphere.
Joe's has great seafood, along with the best oysters. Blue Water is a worthy competitor is the seafood department, maybe better, but again I prefer the atmosphere at Joe's.

Kudos to Vancouver for being named by the New York Times as among the " the best eating towns " in the history of the Winter Games. Plus, Conde Nast Traveller recently awarded Vancouver the GOLD Medal for the Best Chinese Food in North America. Nice to see Vancouver getting more accolades in the international culinary arena. :)
