So I’m the type of guy that really appreciates knowing the amount of investment required before leaving home. What do folks do that are presented an a la carte menu that you have no idea as to the amount ahead of time?

Read reviews of a provider before hand, and make clear during communication that their menu and any extras are outlined and *expected* before making your way over there. The upsell is usually ridiculous and banks on you being too revved up to think properly.
Personally, I only see providers who aren't shy about telling me their services and rates before hand, even if it's ymmv. No surprises for anyone.
