The 80's rocked

Maybe no Britney Spears, but the 80s had Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. And horrible pop crap like Air Supply and Captain and Tennille... Boring generic rock bands like Journey and Styx and Kansas and Foreigner.... Every decade has its crap.

However, I believe that popular music does keep getting worse. It used to be commonplace that there was good music in the Top Forty; now it is a fluke if there is something that is both good and popular. Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Ray Lamontagne are about the only things that come to mind, and they are hardly household names. There is always good music out there, but now you have to search much harder for it.

I"ll take Journey, Styx, Kansas and Foreigner any day over Gaga, T-Pain, Britney, and Rianna. Shit man, I'll even take Debbie Gibson and Tiffany over what's popular now.

First kiss to this classic as it played on the sound system of a mall in LA when I was 14 circa 1988. I was visiting a friend for a couple of weeks and coming from Vancouver, I'd never seen so many girls in my life. She was a, wait for it, blonde, blue eyed and freckly beach girl who smelled like coconut surf wax. She made fun of my accent and said, "Youre weird looking, but I like you" and grabbed my ears and kissed me hard on my upper lip and left a little wet patch that smelled like mint gum.

Awesome story. I wish LA was still kinda cool in that hippy surfer kinda way and not the domain of Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton. What a fucking waste.
I never saw her again after that day but the hook of this song will forever remind me of how she smelled and what that kiss felt like.

Wow guy's and gal's! Thanks for this trip down memory lane. I was born in 1977 so I was fairly young in the early 80's, luckily for me so where my parents so I had the opportunity to grow up with all this music. I'm pretty much all over the map when it comes to music and I liked pretty much everything that everyone on this thread posted, please keep them coming. There are a lot of 80's songs that I know and have in my Itunes but the 80's were full of 1 hit wonder bands and I come across songs from the 80's all the time that I love but have forgotten about until I hear them.

The 80's were such a cool time for music and fashion, especially Hip Hop fashion. I was lucky enough while at The Experience Music Project Museum in Seattle to view a temporary exhibit they had there called "Yes Yes Y'all" which was all about the late 70's, 80's and early 90's Hip Hop scene. Anyway, I've decided to post a few selections of my own. It's hard to please everyone though so hopefully some of you guy's like these.
