Firstly let me say that I am very thankful for the gentlemen who had wished to attend Sweet Honeys memorial. I do trust that you do understand that we had to take into account the wishes of the other ladies involved.
Secondly, I think it would only be suitable to thank the ladies of both t-f.ca and perb for turning out for the occasion. I think it was tasteful and within keeping of the occasion. It was a pleasure to meet you all.
For Izz and the Fox management who were gracious enough to attend at the Opus Lounge , I would like to share the poem that a few of us cried over at La Bodega earlier.
To update those of you who were unable to attend, I cannot extend a further thank you to the people of advocacy groups, extremely high profile ladies and those who wish to remain anoymoous.
Though everyone knows how close we are, I give highest regards to CLM without whom we would not have met many of the fine ladies who are not in the buisness but are IN THE BUISNESS of keeping us safe. Thank you to the Fox agency for offering their monetary support and the indies for showing up and offering your time, flowers and love.
In my opinion, Sweet Honey was remembered in a way that was at the same time highly sad (for lack of a better word) but also helpful and assisted in us forming some bonds and reaffirming some bonds that we had not nutured prior.
Here is the poem that was read- one of our advocacy ladies was strongly moved by this poem and it was read in her honour.
I got flowers today.
It wasn't my birthday or any other special day.
We had our first argument last night,
And he said a lot of cruel things that really hurt me.
I know he is sorry and didn't mean the things he said.
Because he sent me flowers today.
I got flowers today.
It wasn't our anniversary or any other special day.
Last night, he threw me into a wall and started to choke me.
It seemed like a nightmare.
I couldn't believe it was real.
I woke up this morning sore and bruised all over.
I know he must be sorry.
Because he sent me flowers today.
I got flowers today,
And it wasn't Mother's Day or any other special day.
Last night, he beat me up again.
And it was much worse than all the other times.
If I leave him, what will I do?
I'm afraid of him and scared to leave.
But I know he must be sorry.
Because he sent me flowers today.
I got flowers today.
Today was a very special day.
It was the day of my funeral.
Last night, he finally stabbed me to death.
He beat me to death.
If only I had gathered enough courage
and strength to leave him,
I would not have gotten flowers...today
I read this poem in her tribute. I okayed it earlier that day with a very trusted friend who told me it would be appropriate but to practise as to not draw my own self to tears.
As a woman who has had an abusive boyfriend as some of you know (we have joked about the turkey incident etc but these things are real for us involved)..I do take heart in what her plight may have been like.
Again, thank you to the turn out and thank you to those lovely gentlemen who were willing to take the time out of your nights to commenmorate our sister. Please note that we did it in the best of spirits and I think she would have been proud.
I will say finally that the sp community is strong and will remain so. I hope this circumstance and meeting will never have to take place again for another lady. RIP HONEY
I may add to MixVix that though we had some differences in the past, I am not one to hold grudges but I hope your girl is ok. Hate to hear about another situation. This should be the last thread like this.
