I apparently have high speed dsl with Telus, it does not seem to be all that fast.

Where or what do I need to test it. Web site ?

Like johnperb mentioned Go here http://www.speedtest.net and click on "begin test". Or go here http://reviews.cnet.com/internet-speed-test .It will tell you your download and upload speeds. To get an more accurate test, do it a couple of times and different times of the day. Your speed will vary. If you're on Telus High speed lite your only going to get DL speeds of only 256 kbps (max) and is a crappy plan to be on. Telus regular High Speed is 1.6 to 6 mbps (max. depending on the time of day and how much internet traffic is in your area). Telus High speed turbo is 10 to 15 mbps (max)

Exactly, and not only several times a day. Run speed test for a few days. Traffice can be tight at certain times of the day but theory can apply to a few days as well.

Should it be slow for a few days, then you have something to go buy when you call the telus help line.
Also, I don't think Telus should advertise their 256 kbps dsl as high speed. 256 DSL lines used to be high speed way back when the 56k dialup modem were around, but not any more. They should do away with the lite plan all together. Another thing that can slow down your speeds is determinded by how far you're away from a Telus repeater station. DLS lines are limited by the twisted pair copper cable used in phone lines and if you are far away from the Telus station it will affect speeds. Normally, if you complain...Telus will install a booster in you house.

That's why they say "high speed lite"! Think!
Also, why a booster? You pay for what they advertised! Your contract counts! Welcome to reality!

I don't even consider anything under 5mb 'high speed.' And not only that Telus has ridiculous data caps per month.

That's what I think! I'm on Shaw with a consistant 19mb download and 2mb upload. One month I downloaded over 150gigs and Shaw didn't say a thing. With Telus on their newer modems they can throttle your bandwith if you're downloading torrents. Totally sucks....sorry I'm sort of going off topic:D

Holy crap.

My Shaw just showed download speed of 66.20mb/s!!

0.96 mb/s upload.

The download is way faster than what I thought it was.

When did they start giving out that high?
Their improving their infrastructure and testing new speeds. That speed isn't even useful though since most servers can't even handle that, or have capped speeds. What would be useful though is a better upload rate.
