We’re out right now and gf is on the phone with a scammer. He’s offering phones for cheap but needs her billing info? She’s on telus so they should already have all that.
Obvious boiler room scam shop, tons of background noise.
She kept him going for at least half an hour LOL
He’s called back 5 times!

I few days ago I got a call from someone claiming to represent BMO and informing me about an unauthorized withdrawal of several hundred dollars from my account.
I kept them on the line for as long as I could before telling them I do not have an account with the Bank of Montreal.

Now she’s got a couple of password reset messages from telus.
Of course they are fake.
Scammer wants access to her billing info so they can use her credit cards and drain her bank account.

Please people! Be very careful with any unsolicited calls that ask for information!

Also set up 2fa/mfa on all accounts that allow you to. Extra barrier of entry to your account so that even if your password gets leaked or someone guesses it, they can't take over your account easily.

Top of it those number they call from not even existing. Usually what I do while I’m on the fone with them I grab my other fone and start dialling the number they called from and as soon as I tell them they hang up 😆

My favorite is to play with the phish and string them along.

“Really, that’s terrible? How could that happen. You need to confirm my password? Okay, sure. Ready? It’s F-U-C-K-O-F-F….”

One second pause.

Click.

Yup, like a five-year old who just learned a new word. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Not Telus, but I was getting endless calls from Rogers a few months back. I don’t subscribe to anything Rogers so I ignored all the calls. Turns out it was the one bill I forgot to update when my wallet got stolen and I didn’t realize they bought Shaw! My internet got shut off 🤣

Or, if they sound like they're calling from a boiler room in India, tell them your password is MAADARCHOD.

Eventually, given how unhinged corporate IT departments are and following trends, we will need MFA just to access our saved locations on the Weather Channel or Weather Underground. 🤦‍♂️

You think IT is unhinged.

After reading all the emails during slow times in the NOC, I wondered about some employees.

The journal feature of capturing every email incoming and outgoing provided lots of entertainment.

When contacted do not participate directly.
What i mean by this is if called, return call using well known (documented) numbers back to alleged source of call.
If email, do not click links and instead manually enter url into browser and go to contact info and proceed, do this also if texted.
A scammer will not want to end immediate communications but an authentic caller will encourage it, and even if encouraged end communications and proceed with above.
