Over the last couple of weeks, i have had slow down on my telus high speed internet. Before it ran at 155 kbps, now it runs at 45 kbps. Went thru their technical services to fix it, but several days later it drops again  . Just wanted to know if anyone else out there had similiar problems and if there were any solutions. Thought about switching to Shaw. Thanks. Peace.

on regular telus hi speed you should be over 1000kb/s down. 45 is like dial up speed :( :( My buddy had trouble the other week but the next day it fixed itself.

Badwolf - I assume the 2500 down you're referring to is for the enhanced version. My plain vanilla version Telus ADSL consistently gives me +/- 1250 down and +/- 300 up. Every once in a while there are some fluctuations. I used to have Shaw high speed (not Extreme) and it was all over the map from 250 down all the way to (in non peak hours) 4800 up. At least with Telus its more consistent.

Just 30 seconds ago mine was 1283 down and 295 up. (you appear to have reversed your up / down numbers LG).

Go with Shaw for TV

Don't mean to change the subject
If you want HD TV. When Telus launches TV it will not have HD.

I have had Both ADSL and cable - IMHO ADSL is better:

Cable
- Speeds are erratic, depending on how many people in your neighbourhood are surfing at the same time.
- Pings are generally low (less than 20ms)
- Only one company to choose from (Shaw)
- Can bundle with cable TV to get a deal

ADSL
- Speeds are consistent.
- Pings are slightly higher, 20ms - 50ms
- One company to choose from

Many people prefer ADSL because the speed is consistent, and independent of the time of day. At 5pm in the day, cable Internet often slows to a crawl, and can be three times slower than the usual speed.

So making a long story short. ADSL is the clear winner.

Just Shaw plain Cable internet (not Extreme), through a router and shared I am getting 3314down 268up. I have never seen my connection lower than 2000 down.
It helps to live in a 'e-community' where Telus and Shaw are scrapping to see who can be fastest. Around here Telus is sucking for bandwidth and service.

I am such a bandwidth hog. :D

Telus is slow, go with Shaw. On Shaw extreme I get 6900kbps. I've never seem more then 3000kbps on telus.

When I had Shaw I too was getting those kinds of speeds during non-peek hours. Try it at say 6PM and you'll be getting down to below 1000 Down. Whereas my "regular" ADSL chugs along at +/-1275 just about all the time.
